2013 Atomic Alibi Ski

Posted

Pros: Versatility, nice float, stable at speed

Cons: It is a compromise ski. Not a pure carver, not a pure fresh/crud ski

These skis do pretty much anything I ask them. I'm a ski instructor, and on teaching days, I need a ski that's easy to teach on, precise enough to clinic on, stable at speed, and competent enough for me to work on my off-paste skiing. This ski carves great and is stable at 40+ mph on the rare days I can do that, and the rockered front makes it decently soft in the fresh. The body and tail are stiff enough to reward putting them on edge andloading them up. Their sweet spot is smaller than a pure carver, and they don't float as well as a powder ski, but you can't expect everything...

Description:

The new Atomic Alibi with titanium Backbone is the perfect twin-tip for adventurous all-mountain skiers. A combination of features makes this an especially versatile ski, not least the innovative Backbone technology. This new, ultra-lightweight titanium insert runs the length of the ski like a stabilizing backbone. As a result the Alibi runs very smoothly on the piste, allowing the skier to control this ski effortlessly and with precision. This ski is just as easy to control in powder: with a huge 98 mm waist width and All Mountain Rockers in the tip and tail, the Alibi delivers exceptional lift and is ultra-agile.
