I have a Rubicon Rider and it's a great jacket for very cold days. It's super warm and as is the case with most all Patagonia products, it's totally bombproof. I typically like to layer and top off with a good shell but I cant do much layering with this jacket as its just too warm for much under it. If you're skiing in frigid temps this would be a great addition to your ski arsenal but if you're skiing in milder climates you might want to look into picking up a Patagonia down sweater and a good shell so that you can layer.
This ultrawarm polyester ripstop jacket combines the motion-friendly, breathable benefits of a soft shell with waterproof reinforcements and lightweight insulation to keep you riding the backcountry - even if the weather turns sour.
Backcountry riders balance a fine line between cold temperatures, internal sweat and external moisture. If any condition gains the upper hand, you're in freefall. Our Rubicon Rider manages the backcountry extremes by combining a breathable soft-shell fabric (to vent high-output moisture), stay-warm-when-wet insulation (to keep you dry and mobile) and waterproof/breathable reinforcements (for storm protection). Made of supple, 2.4-oz 100% polyester ripstop, the shell has a Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish to snub wind and moisture. Inside, a soft layer of compressible 150-g Thermogreen® polyester (90% recycled) insulation adds heat to icebox temperatures. Tough 2-layer panels, made of 150-denier polyester with an H2No® waterproof/breathable barrier, beef up the shoulders, elbows and bottom hem to increase storm performance and protect from abrasion. Finer points include pit zips, an easy-gliding liner, a zip-off powder skirt with webbing loops that attach to any Patagonia® Ski/Snowboard pants, a removable, helmet-compatible hood with a single-hand adjustment, handwarmer pockets, a chest pocket and two inside pockets (one holds an audio device).
