2009 Nordica Hot Rod Jet Fuel Ski

Pros: Very stable

Cons: weighs a lot

The former head ski designer for Volkl now works for Nordica so it is no surprise that the Jet Fuel tracks like a classic Volkl ride. Double torsion box core and metal top sheet make this ski very durable. It is heavy and not the easiest ski to turn. It loves speed but also does well at lower speeds in powder.

I find that the Jet Fuel is at its best in cut up snow and wind blown crud but is also good on hard pack. A great choice for a one ski quiver.

Pros: Stable at speed, great performance on all surfaces

Cons: Short turns

Skier type: advanced, all terrain, Colorado, Utah, Whistler/BC
42 yr male, 150lbs, 5'8"

Conditions: Copper Mtn, Colorado, 3"-6" fresh in morning, spring conditions in afternoon.

This ski feels heavy when carried, but light under foot.  Enormous sweet spot and very damp, I never felt out of balance or in the "back seat."  Excellent binding interface connection between boot and ski.  Carves easily on firmer surfaces, and awards skier for finishing turns.  Amazing edge hold.  Plows through consolidated snow and uneven surfaces easily without tip deflection. Easy to control in 6" powder.  I could not find the skis limits on either groomed or off piste terrain....an extremely stable ski.  Ski can be pivot turned under foot quite easily for enhanced maneuverability in moguls and steep ungroomed terrain.  The Jet Fuel feels substantial under foot.  Not a "playful" or short turn ski, much more of a tool to conquer large sections of variable terrain at speed.  Somewhat forgiving in moguls for such a wide ski: I found it effective use a combination of pivot turns and tail steering on firmer bumps, but had no problem charging the fall line in softer snow sections of moguls.  This ski is easy to both run flat or on edge.  Tails are stiff, but because of large sweet spot, also forgiving of balance errors.

Overall a very versatile ski for western resorts.  Equally at home on front and backside terrain.  Durability should be excellent as the Jet Fuel appears to be solidly constructed of quality materials.
