2009 K2 Pontoon Ski

Pros: Very stable, surfing like turns, fast with good manuverability

Cons: not as nimble as narrower skis and does not handle groomer exceptionally well, but that is not what it is designed for.

Skiied in powder from 4 inches of fresh to 3 feet of powder.  The Pontoon skis beautifully regardless of the depth.  This ski is just plain fun, if you like the feel of surfing in powder.  There is definitely a different feel to to the ski than say a narrower ski in the 102mm width.  In steeper terrain as in single or double diamond the ski is fantastic.  YOu don't feel as if you are on two skis but rather one board as in a surf board or maybe a snowboard.  Fantastic stablity in deep powder with speed.  Large surfing like turns that I find great fun.  It also handles well in less steep terrain, and as little as 6 inches of fresh. I found it handles surprisingly well on the groomer on the way back to the lift. Certainly not where it shines, but the ski does better than I thought it would. A really fun ski that you may find yourself using a lot more than you think that you would.  Top sheets do not get beat up as readily as some of my other skis.

Pros: Super stable, floaty... felt like I was surfing in Hawaii

Cons: A little squirrely on the groomed parts of the hill, on the way back to the lift

I bought these skis online in the off-season from evogear.com and brought them out to Utah for some spring skiing in April 2011.  I have never had more fun skiing in the 20 years I have been skiing.  Wow!  Very confidence inspiring, allowed me to attack parts of the mountain that I would have probably avoided before I got these skis.  They are definitely for the deep stuff, and are serviceable on hard pack getting back to the lift.  Would probably be absolutely amazing on heli skiing, since you eliminate the resort on piste trip back to the lift.  Fun, fun, fun.

Pros: excellent float and turns in powder

Cons: marginal on packed snow

Excellent float and turns in powder. Skis exceptionally well in powder and trees. Will get you back to the lift over packed snow. A great choice for your powder day ski.

Pros: Unbelievale float!

Cons: The big tips are clunky with a narrow stance

The K2 Pontoon is the best floatation device you can strap to your feet. The uncanny abilities that this ski possesses are far reaching! If you need a ski that handles all sorts of soft snow, powder, mank and crud this is it. There is a reason why K2 signed the legend Shane McConkey to the team. The late great skiing mastermind designed what is hands down the best powder ski.

2009 K2 Pontoon Ski

In 2004, the legendary Shane McConkey pioneered an unheard-of approach to ski design, and the K2 Pontoon Alpine Ski was born. And as the Pontoon built a legend of its own, it kept coming back every year like spring flowers, Santa Claus, and the flu. Expert riders load this ski in the car on epic powder days worth calling in sick-or quitting a job-for.
