Pros: Lots of pop, loves speed, versatile turn shape and size.
Cons: Not great in cruddy snow or pow.
I loved, loved loved this ski!!! (2007/2008 edition)
I demoed this ski in both the 154cm and the 161cm lengths and found distinct differences in their stability at speed and forgiveness (probably only really noticeable because I did these demos back-to-back).
The Fuego (spanish for Fire) is a little spitfire. It's a bouncy, poppy little carver that dances down the mountain with aplomb. It happily and speedily made short, medium, and even long turns without a hitch. It has that legendary Volkl edge grip, perfect for east coast or midwest "hardpack" (aka ice). While it didn't shine in cruddy snow or pow, it easily skidded through chop but prefered carving high speed trenches on the groomed.
I found the 154cm to be much more forgiving of the occasional lapse into the back seat and other technique errors and it was much easier to skid consistently than the 161cm. I found the 161cm to be much more stable at high speeds and much happier in long turns than the 154cm.
This is the perfect hard snow ripper for any agressive advanced to expert woman craving speed, pop, and stability at speed and the versatility to make any size or shape turn at any time. Buy this ski, ride it hard and fast, and be prepared to wait until you thaw out to remove the big grin from your face!!
