noncrazy   There's now a road along most of the route. I would guess that the changes are profound. Kathmandu itself has changed enormously from what i gather.
I did a trek around Annapurna in Nepal about 30 years ago. since then roads and modern civilization have come into that region and I guess the trip is now a casual guided walk for most. Back the there were no roads in the mountains....
