Nope, not a better skier but you will enjoy them! In some ways they did make skiing easier- more fluent due to the way the ski flex's when turned/pressured. But I have to say, these are most likely going to be around for a couple of seasons. If you are interested, I would keep an eye open for demoed skis (like I have) or used somewhere. I can't afford new ones! Tough economy- and Phil's a tough guy, I am not eager to get a visit Vinnie and Rocko; "Phil's public relations team"....... hummph humph... So I need to keep these in the quiver!
No really, I wouldn't ever hype up a ski I didn't really like and even if i sell them, its not that I don't like them. I love to try different skis. In this case, I bought a 4x4 to ski east coast hardpack, I didnt have any skis under 90mm. I demoed the 78 and just went "Whoa" holy crap this ski rocks. I immediately sold the 4x4 for what I paid. the same day i demoed the 78's another guy who jumped on them was also blown away, he actaully bought two pairs the next day! I am actually liking a groomed run ( funny that's exactyl what Dawg said) I can't see getting rid of it since I don't ski much hardpack or groomers but I would be very tempted to get an MX88. I demoed the FX84 and liked it but it didnt thrill me like the MX78 and i don't really need a mid-80's ski. If its soft snow or left overs, i am going to a 90 which for 2 seasons has been my Pilgrims.
