What length skies.

Hello

I am looking into getting myself a pair of skis. Last year I tried some Fischer RX8 (sorry cannot rember the length but it might have been 165 or 170 - I remember not being able to demo many different lengths) which I liked a lot. Now that I want to buy a pair it seems the RX lineup (including the RX8) got replaced with the Viron lineup (The Viron 8.8 replacing the RX8).

I am 1.92m (6.26 feet) heigh and weigh about 92kg (203 lbs). Im not particular strong but not weak either. I will rate myself as an itermediate skier who gets a bit better every year (I only ski about 7 days in a row every year). I ski piste only (and if I go outside I will try rent a special ski for that).

Now the new Viron 8.8 only comes in length 150,155,160 and 170 (Whereas the RX8 also came in 175). I would think that a 175 would be best for me length wise (reaches my nose whereas the 170 reaches my chin) so my questions are:

1) Will the Viron 8.8 fit me length wise or should I try if I can round up a RX8 from last year?

2) The RX8 came with Railflex 10 or 11 binding whereas the Viron 8.8 comes with Railflex 12. Whats the advantage of the 12 over the 10 or 11?

Thanks in advance for your feedback

Your skis care very little about how big you are and very much how you ski them.  While short skis offer some leverage issues off piste, they have few drawbacks on the groomers.  Don't worry about going too short, get one which is the right flex and sidecut for your skiing.  A 170 will be fine.  You might like a165.

THE RX8 IS STILL MADE FOR THIS YEAR. THEY CHANGED THE RAILFLEX TO MOUNTING FLAT PLATE TO CUT COST. THE PRICE OF THE SKI IS LOWER THIS YEAR. THE VIRON 8.8 IS FOR OUTSIDE THE U.S.A. GO 170 OR LONGER

Thank you for the advice. Since I live in Europe I the RX8 Pro does not seem like an option for me. Hence me considering the Viron 8.8

I might be able to get some RX8 from last years stock (going to a shop tomorow to see). But it seems a 170 length would be fine even though I might be able to get some RX8 from last year in 175.

What about the different Railflex bindings. Whats the difference between 10, 11 and the 12? Is it only DIN rating?

Thanks

Went to the shop yesterday and got last years Fischer RX8 in 170. Thought hard about getting them in 175 but decided the 170 might prove more fun given my level of experience. Second choice was wether to go for the RX8 (40% discounted) or for the new Viron 8.8 (full price). I decided that since the RX8 was an awsome and accepted ski for the past many years and since I only ski 1 week every year it would be wasted to spend 40% on this years fashion. So I ended up with the RX8. As the shop owner said: The money saved could be used towards buying a second pair of skis if I decide to try my hands at fx off-piste.

Thanks
