U.P. Michigan lodging choices

We've been looking at areas around Bessemer to lodge and ski the surrounding choices (Indianhead, Powderhorn, etc) and was looking for good choices to lodge in this vicinity that offer discounted lift tix...any ideas, pls?

My buddy Bob owns the "Classic Motor Lodge" in Ironwood.  He is a grade-A, first class dude and will take care of you well.  Very good skier and very knowledgeable about the area.  Call him up and tell him his friend Jamie from Marquette sent ya...

excellent.  there seem to be a lot of small food and lodging choices that are really hard to know about unless you grow up around there or ask the locals, as there's not too much internet coverage for some reason.  any other ideas for food and such?

Don and GG's has good food at a reasonable price. Use to be better back in the day but still excellent.

Many various resturants around the area so don't worry. Drive around and when you see something that perks your interest pull on in. Also some fun bars in the area.

Lodging they have various hotels. I've never really found much of a need to stay on the hill at any of them as everything is so close. Money saved can be spent on better things like gear, booze, and ladies.

Whitecap has some decent lodging prices right at the hill that includes lift tickets. Personally they have best terrain in that area overall. Not the best park but by far the most challenging terrain.

If you got a chance don't be afraid to take about a two hour drive to Mt. Bohemia one day and do some real skiing. Anytime you get that close to Mt. Bohemia you should do it. But be warned you may not want to ski anywhere else in the Midwest after that. Porkies snowcat skiing isn't bad either(reg. runs aren't anything special). That is about 30 min. or so from Ironwood depending on the weather. Heck I'd make my trip to Mt. Bohemia instead of Big Snow Country. Stay in Houghton and get online Dec. 5th and you can get a season pass for $99. Better snow, better terrain, and cheaper.

Have fun, I have many memories of the Ironwood area when a group of us use to hit it up every year for about 3 to 4 nites.
