My 2 ski quiver: any comments?

I just purchased a lightly used pair of Movement Goliath Sluff skis 174cm with Marker Griffon bindings to replace my much loved 6 year old 168cm Atomic R:Ex which was my one ski quiver.  My new no new snow/carving skis are Fisher Progressor 8+ 165cm.  I ski mostly off piste, steeps and moguls in UT, Tahoe and CO.  I know I'm missing a mid-80mm mid-fat but hopefully will be able to extend the Progressor's versitility up or the Sluff's down for when there's only a few inches of new snow.  Does this sound like a reasonable for my 2 ski quiver?

No need for that 80mm ski...
I have the Sluffs, and you will be amazed at how the ski does in just a couple inches of new snow...
The Sluffs are exactly what you are looking for...
They will work just fine on the few inches of new snow...
Now when it gets deeper than 12 inches...that's different...
I have that 2 ski quiver you have right now...
I have a Dynastar Contact LTD for when it has not snowed for several days, a pair of Sluffs when it has snowed...
The sluffs come up a little short when it gets deeper than shin deep...at least for me...
I am looking to add a pair for those days when I will encounter the shin deep snow...
Your quiver looks just fine, but if you are looking for an excuse to buy equipment, go for it...

Thanks

Richard

rspacher,

I'd love to hear what you think the Sluffs do well and not so well.  It's hard to imagine that a ski with a tip of 134mm and a waist of 99mm has problems in deep snow.  What don't you like about it in the deep?  What do you think of the Sluff's crud busting and quick, short turn abilities?  I got a pretty good deal on them ($325 shipped) and bought them w/o demoing after reading as much as I could online.  They were one of about 6 skis that seemed right for me.  Thanks!

I think the Sluffs do a lot very well...great soft snow ski...
First off, I am around 225-240 lbs...so you see i need a lot of ski when the snow gets deep...
I live in Colorado, so that has some impact also...
I have the same kind of thought process that you have, get me a skinny ski for it has not snowed for a few days...
In my case that would be the Dynastars...
I have the Sluffs in 184cm length, for when we have new snow, even if is just a couple of inches...
They perform the best when its just a couple of inches, up to boot deep...deeper than that and they start to require more work...
They are fairly stiff in the front, there fore don't float the best in the fluffy stuff we get around here...
They carve on the groomed runs, much much better than you would think...
I think they are great crud busters, not as quick turning as your Progressors would be, but that is to be expected...
I have no problem using them all day when the snow is soft, I ski them with my family in all kinds of conditions...
I am looking to buy that last pair for when the snow is more than boot deep, I will keep the Sluffs and just compliment them....
I will most likely end up with a softer pair of the new Resort Rocker skis, Armada JJ, Rossi S7, CRJ...something along those lines...
That will give me the quiver i need for anything I ski on here...and I admit i am an equipment junkie...

I'm 145 lbs so hopefully the Sluffs will provide a bit more float for me in the deeper snow.  I'm certainly not expecting the Sluffs to be a quick as a ski with a 72mm waist but they have been reported to be pretty nimble and quick for a wider ski.  Great to hear that you've found the Sluffs to be so versitle.  Sounds like a great wider soft snow one ski quiver.  Can't wait to try them out.  Of course I'd love to buy more gear but that would be impractical and cause some serious marital discord.  Thanks for your comments.

You will love the sluff's...
They are very versatile, although I consider them to be a mid-fat at this point...
Heck just 5 years ago 99mm under foot was considered to be a real fat ski..now look at the options...
Gotta love technology...
You have to post what you think once you have a chance to try them out...
