I need to buy a pair of skis and I don't know if I go for the Volkl Ac20 or Elan Magfire 78 (2008-09 models). I'm 5feet11in, 180 pounds, male, intermediate level (mostly blues). Could you help me decide or even give me further options?
Thank you

This reply ia little late. I bought a pair of Magfire 78's last spring on close out. I have skied them twice and am delighted. I am an advanced skier, experienced at age 62, and am about your size. I have skied them twice on groomers and am in love. They are so easy to ski, have great edge hold, are quick even though I am not, and stable as long as kept on edge. I bought the 176, though I usually ski on a longer ski. I don't know yet how they handle junk or powder, though I have other skis I would take on a powder day. I don't think you could go wrong with the Elan, but I can't say anything about the Volkl. Let us know what you bought and how you like them. LewBob

I've had AC-20s for two years; they are great for the entire span of "intermediate", from beginner to advanced.  In particular, they hold well on hardpack.  I'm 5'9" and 150 lbs.
Enjoy every sandwich.
