Bogner clothing

I just read this thread.  I must be bored.  I think I'll do something more interesting, like clean the toilet.

It amazes me that anyone, myself included, cares about this at all.

I slide.

All ski clothes are primarily about appearance and fashion.

At least 90% of the people who were "technical" clothing (like Arc'teryx and the like) are doing so to create an appearance, an impression and to look cool. At some point down the road, the brand that conveys that cool impression will probably be something else ... hence the "fashion" part.

Bogner conveys one image and resonates with a particular population in a particular way; Arc'teryx conveys another image and resonates with a different group; Sypder ...; REI ...; Armani ...; J. Press ...; etc.

Having only seen the awful looking stuff you see rich old fat gapers wearing around ski resorts generally think very poorly of it. Going on there website its not so awful but with verbage like shorter cuts for 'sporty" looks I just think UGH why would pay 800 bucks for that!

800 bucks for a jacket that promises you a wet cold butt sounds pretty out of place to me when you cna find patagonia,Helly Hanson, and cloudveil Jackets for much less than 200 bucks

"its not that you cant ski the bumps, its that you cant ski and the bumps prove it"

pbfootnit.blogspot.com/ <<< the start of something good!

800 for a jacket that promises a wet cold butt  means having a  full-time driver at the door so one doesn't go -out- in the rain and big fat tips for teh cute ski instructors in their patagonia/HH/Cloudveil so they can nurse their colds and aches as they scurry about in the weather.

The only person I ever knew who wore Bogner had a closet full of them, was a rich woman, over 50, who won a bump contest one year, while wearing the Bogner.  And yes, she COULD ski.

I coveted both her skiing ability and ONE of her outfits.

However, that was 15 years ago.  Nowadays, where I ski, if I see Bogner, I say to myself, GAPER.

There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment.

I don't really get some of you people!  What the hell? It doesn't matter what you wear. Bogner, Arcteryx or trash bag. Wear what you want, what you like, what suits you the best. Geez it's just clothes!
Some of you calling the others idiots just because they have different opinion on the matter? Shame!

Very true! I agree, you should wear what you want and this thread was created, it seems like, as a inquiry on the brand Bogner itself. Personally, I feel no shame in saying I wear only Bogner, and yes, many on here will claim I am an "idiot" for doing so. I am not bashing the brands that people wear that aren't Bogner, I just feel that I in the years I have lived and skied this suits me nicely. It is funny to see some people that have a hard time accepting others  for what they enjoy, glad you put into perspective Jarpil! :)

I just had to ask about this post.

1- Armani makes ski clothes? if they do how how is it remotely possible they are in the same market as arc' teryx?
2- Who is J.Press?
3- REI? when did they become premium?
4- Spyder?  Isn't Arc the antithesis of Spyder?

Do you folks really care what some other person is wearing? If so, isn't it hypocritical of you to decry their concern with "fashion"?  Or are you saying that you are equally concerned with your fashion staement but just have different aesthetic preferences? Sounds like "Gaper" talk to me!

Not really but I am intersted to know if Armani makes ski clothes and who J.Press is!

The funny thing is that wear arc, cloudveil stuff because its got lifetime warrenty, works well, fits well and it is minimilistic- not flashy. Since and since I am out at 8 and back at 4 in the trees and such  When I sell it, i get back most of my money.  Wear what you want but some of the stuff is very funny looking. It is what it is....  I am sure I look funny to some as well afterall, I am a gaper.

I'd never heard of Bogner until this year when I was looking for a replacement for the Gortex Marker Jacket I lost this fall ;o(.  Bogner kept coming up in my search at 50 to 70% off making it a mere $2000.00 to $5000.00 for the flashy jackets.  I thought they looked great but I -certainly don't have the kind of money I'd need to pay that for a jacket, too many other things I could do with that ( a week of heli-skiing for the more expensive pieces).    I thought it strange they were coming up all over when I searched the internet though.  I guess they have started making their clothes available at more then Neiman Marcus this year.  Dear, I do hope they haven't found the global recession so tough they are selling off last years line at such discount vendors through ebay.

If I won the powerball I'd probably buy it, but unlike many here (according the head ski's are ugly post), I'd buy head skis this year, even though they're ugly!  So it's not always about looks....

hi,
bogner is cool but not my type of ski jacket..
jackets who fits like a golf glove feels me much more comfartable when skiing.. so for me kjus formula is the best ski jacket ever made.. also I like peak's supreme and heli jackets.. but these are as pricy as bogner also..

Ok im comming to the Gathering Naked and you all can dress me, dont expext a red cent for what you put me in nor can you expect any complaints from me. After all isnt it just enough to get what you can on to keep warm for as low a cost as your own personal budget limits you to?
Please start looking in your closets tonight for clothing you wouldnt be caught dead in anymore and have it cleaned and pressed.
Yours ever so humble

The point was that each of the choices "conveys [a particular] image and resonates with a particular population in a particular way," and they were arranged in the hope of making people note the variety of different images, resonances and populations that are out there in the world.

While the J. Press reference was intended to stand in contrast to Armani, someone with the right attitude could probably make an impression by running a fast line through big moguls in this:

Perhaps a beefy 3-button tweed sportcoat would make a little more sense, especially if accompanied by telemark skis and leather boots.

... And then I discovered that J. Press carries a few items which are actually dangerously close to functional skiwear:
