I am a 46 year old advanced/expert skier, 6'1" and about 225 lbs, which is about 20 lbs too many, and I live and ski (mostly) in northern Vermont. I am due for a new pair of boots; my current pair is a pair of Salomon Equipe 9.0 from 2000 or 2001. When I bought them, they were the first comfortable pair I had ever owned, but they are now a little long in the tooth.
A couple years ago, I tried on a pair of Tecnica Diablo Magmas at the suggestion of the boot fitter (I had been leaning toward Salomon Impact 10 or Pro, and he suggested the Tecnicas). They fit (size 27.5), but at the time I didn't have the ducats. Now I do, so I went to try on a pair of Tecnica Dragon 120s, which I understood to have replaced the Diablos. They did not feel good.
The fitter today suggested a pair of Salomon Mission 12 (over the Impact 10). They felt good, but I have not read or heard anything about them. Any ideas? Is the last/fit significantly different (or should it be) from the last/fit of the Impact 10 (doesn't the Impact 10 come in 2 different lasts)? Is there a significant performance difference?
I am looking for a boot that I can wear all day, is a higher-end (advanced/expert level) boot, and is relatively warm. Aren't we all?
Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.
