Still doesnt work..

Any way you guys can fix that? super annoying and IE and opera dont mess will with my computer.

quite honestly I have written stuff in word or TGR and copied and pasted it over here just so it is spell checked.

This also comes from the FAQ specifically about Firefox's spell checker on EpicSki:

Why can't I right click and use Firefox's spell checker?
Because we use a fully WYSIWYG (What you See is What You Get) editor, the right click is needed to be able to pull up image and table properties, cut and paste, etc.  However, fear not.  There is a work-around to be able to keep using it.

If you hold ctrl (PC) or Command (Mac) when you right click in FF, it will treat the right click as though it's outside of the text editor.

This is an extra step for folks, but the idea was to provide the power of the context sensitive menus in the editor (to align images, add borders, color table cells, etc.) but also enable you to take advantage of good 'ol Firefox. Hope that helps.

I understand your frustration with the spell checking stuff because you get used to doing it a certain way, but to explain, the FCK editor uses the right click for context-specific menu choices and commands... so for example when you're embedding a picture or a video, you have access to the embedding-action menu choices via right click.

Hopefully this access to the contextual menu makes life easier in using the overall functionality. The trade-off, of course, is that you have to make an extra key selection to get to the Firefox/Mozilla standard right click tool menu...If you prefer the Mozilla tool, you can control click as Stins points out above.

The Irony was not lost upon it's creators either... who recently changed it to the CK editor!

It's actually one of the best lightweight in-page editors out there, has been developing for years and years, and it's very reliable. It has it's quirks, but as far as embedded HTML/WYSIWYG editors go, it's definitely one of the best available.

Having misspelled words show up underlined in red while you are writing them seemed like a good thing, but Epicski has a better idea. So Epic.

You also can set Firefox to prevent sites from overriding the browser's own context menus:

Tools | Options |  Content

Then click the "Advanced" button to the right of the "Enable Javascript" checkbox.
That pops open another dialog box. Make sure that "disable or replace context menus" is NOT checked.

Voila - Firefox default right-click menu works in browser as does the spell checker.

BTW, I really wish Mozilla gave that option site-specific exceptions, the way they do for saved passwords and cookies. Disabling context menu javascript overrides is my default setting, but there are sites like GMX mail where their context menu is more useful than the browser's.

That's definitely an option, but beware that will make certain editor functions completely unavailable.  As long as you're only interested in using the most basic features of the editor, it's a viable solution.

To do that with Ubuntu 9.10 you can hold either the Control or the Windows key and right click with Firefox.

I just figured out how to turn off WYSIWYG mode. Thank god.

Just write what you want. Format it. Then click on Source (next to the word format on the editor bar) and the firefox checker works.
