I am looking for a new pair of powder boards. I currently have a pair of 184 Mantra's, they are great, but I want something with a little softer flex and wider under foot. My first two choices are the Salomon Shogun and the new Volkl Gotama. I ski on the east coast and take a trip out west every couple of years. They would be mainly used in the trees, where the powder collects. I have demoed the shogun, which was by fluke, because the rep didn't have the ski that I was looking for so I thought I would try them for fun. I absolutely loved them and which got me thinking that I should get a pair. I tried the 182 and they skied shorter than the listed length, mainly due to the rocker in the tip. I can get the shogun's for pro form cost, not sure about the goats.
My first question is: Has anyone tested both skis and how do they compare to each other? Which one is better on groomed/hardpack trails?
Second question: What size should I buy? I am 6'2" 190 lbs. Level 9 skier.
Third question: What bindings should I mount to the gotama's (If I choose them)?
Final question: Are ther other skis that are similar that I should look into?
Any help answering my questions is greatly appreciated. I always come here first for advise for new skis.
