K2 Extreme and bindings

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a pair of K2 Extremes. I am 17 years old, and would classify myself as a high-advanced skier. I am 6'1" 150lbs and I plan on using these as an everyday all-mountain ski (groomers, bumps, trees, powder, you name it).
First, is this a good choice of ski? If yes, would 174 be a good length for me?
Also, any binding recommendations would be great.

For what you are looking for the Extreme would be just fine for you.  The 174cm OTH is too short go with the 179cm you will be much happier it will perform much better in everyday conditions. 

Binding wise it really depends on what you want to spend......

I personally would stick with a LOOK binding there retention is awesome and you can find some pretty damn good deals on them, here are a couple to check out......

Personally my first choice would be a FKS 120.  You are going to spend a bit more but this binding is really a tough one to beat!!!!!

Secondly the PX12 Wide will save you a bit but will also get the job done very well.

where do you ski at? If this is back east 174 would be fine, if anywhere out west where you can opened it up or in euro land I think the 179 would be more prudent.

I live in the midwest, but generally split my ski time between Utah (Cottonwoods) and the Midwest/East (Whiteface and Snowshoe are come common destinations). Basically where ever the family goes.

I hesitate to go with the 179's just because that will be much longer than anything i've skied on before. I've always had hand-me-downs from my brother, and they've never been longer than 170. What are the pros and cons of the 179 vs. the 174?

If you keep an eye on tramdock or the associates currently (www.cleansnipe.com), you can pick up some px12's for a nice price . However, I'm not that picky with my bindings.  I'm around a DIN of 8 (185, level 3, boot sole length 340mm) and have had good experiences with cheaper bindings.  But to each his own!  The prices on tramdock have been good. 

i have the 09/10 extreme ski and it is the best ski for all round conditions. I went for the marker schizo binding system as well (highly recommended) as you can change the position of the binding so easily meaning it is even more of an all round ski !!

YOU certainly had quite the salesman......

The Public Enemy / Extreme is a great choice for what you're looking for.  It will ski a tad shorter due to a reduction in the effective edge (due to its "twin tipness").  At your weight 174 is good for short turns, trees and tight bumps, and the 179 for most other things.  Try hard to demo both before pulling the trigger.
