Scott Mission - Scott P4 Quiver

I currently own a pair a Scott Mission 168's.  They have a 86mm waist.  Although they are alittle short, I love these skis and really have not had any problem with them at all even on deep powder days.  I have the opportunity to purchase some demo Scott P4  181's (108mm waist) for a decent price and was wondering if it is a good idea or not.  I don't want to spend $$$ just to add set of skis to my quiver if the difference will be minimal.  Is the difference in waist width and length really going to be noticeable?  For some reason I think I need a longer/wider ski for deep powder days.

 It will be noticeable for sure, remember the p4 does have a twin tip though so running length will be shorter than a regular 181.

I used the P4 last year in deep powder on my Utah trip.  It definitely made the skiing easier.  I would not be scared off by the 181 as it does ski shorter.  There were times that I wish I had the longer version.  It is an excellent ski.

Yeah l'm kind of going through the same thing. Right now l have some 169 Volkl Bridges (I think 92mm waist) and thinking about getting the Shogun's, Prophet 100's or something of the like around 180cm. I have done a lot of research on this topic and the P4 sounds like a good ski to complement your Mission. As long as they arent too long, but the people above said they weren't. So my advice is: Go for it!

Not that I really know, but the twin tip of the p4 will feel shorter than 181 yet the extra length and width will help in powder in a significant way over your 168.  If you can afford to get the p4 I think you'll be happy.

You never mentioned weight/height and skill level.  That would help.

Paul,

I am 5'10" and about 168 lbs.  I can ski blacks without any problems and double blacks except for the most extreme.  Off-piste and powder are no problem and I don't like bumps.  Don't know if this relates to skill level but that is what I ski.

You are deff big enough to bend the 191. Its a big floppy ski that is really easy to use if you ahve good technique.

I think a 181 would be great for you.  It will still be a lot of ski, but should be great in powder.

I am a little taller than you and 20 lbs heavier, but probably also a lot older(50).  Even though I have the 181 I think the 181 will work great for you as there were times I wished I had a longer ski in the really deep stuff.

Thanks for all the good advice!  I think I am going to wait and just save my $$ for now.  I will be going to the ESA in Aspen and the SLC gathering so maybe I will get the chance to meet some of you.

Hey guys, just looking for a little guidance on the P4's.  After reading many reviews, I'm still unsure of which size is best for me...the 181's or the 191's???  I currently ski on Volkl Mantra 170's and I sometimes feel that the 177's would have been a better choice.  Now that my skiing has improved, I find that I'm wanting more speed.  Now if the P4's in 191 ski more like a 181, that would mean the 181's have an effective edge similar to a 171 ski.  So that just brings me back to where I started...on 170 skis.  I would like the 181's, but if the running length is a lot shorter plus the 191's scare me and might be way too long.  I just don't want to make another expensive mistake. Anyways, I'm a strong intermediate skier at 5'9" and 165 lbs that does ok on most black diamond runs.  I don't like bumps or tight trees.  I've been skiing now for about 3 years and do about 70/30 resort/backcountry.  Thanks for any advice in this matter.

I think if you have to ask, definitely the 181. That's plent of ski. You're on 170's now!
