Salomon Lord or Scott Punisher

Hi all, previously posted on Salomon Lord only but now I'm torn...

6'5, 200lbs, 65/35 on piste/ off piste skier, level 8, strong.  Planning on more off piste this winter (50/50). Quite aggressive, though enjoy groomers and chill once in a while. And I NEED to go fast most of the time (finally bought a helmet too, so I'm gonna be pushing it more this year)

I'm torn between these skis. Not a park skier, but love everything else from groomers to crud to pow

Salomon Lord 185, or Scott Punisher 191 (or 182s...???) as 1 ski quiver... any tips???

thanks in advance,
alex

Hi Alex,
I have not been on the Salomon but I ride the Punisher (182) and its a fantastic ski. But its not a ski for fast skiing. There is no titanal reinforcement. Pure wood and fibre. Looking at your size and weight I possibly would have a look at the Voelkl Mantra 184. Its a fater and stronger ski. The Punisher could be too soft for high speed carving even the ski is a very good carver (short radius).
Cheers

Where do you ski?  Something beefier for the East Coast would be appropriate.

The lord is an interesting ski.  It says rocker 220 on it, but its really more the tip design.  If your looking for a beefy ski and don't need a full twin definitely check out the Rossi Phantom, seems like the tougher ski to me.   If your looking to go really fast and want a little extra width the K2 Explorer is a good ski.

If you decide on the Punisher, go long...it skis short.  I'm 6'0", 175 and ski a similar profile to you.  I'm on the 191 cms and am glad I went with that length.  As noted, not a groomer zoomer.  I used to ski on Fischer RC4 WC RC's and loved the stability, but can't really ski that fast except midweek.  I don't really miss the Fischers now that I spend so much time in the woods.  I also have Nordica Afterburners and have found the top end of the Scotts to be similar...40mph or so and they start to get a little twitchy.
