Best Discount Ski Apparel Websites?

I'm sure it's been answered 1000 times over, but my thread search was coming up empty.  So where are the best ski apparel deals on the web?  I need a new parka and just can't pay retail!!

There are quite a few; however, the best deals at almost any ski store are usually found at end of ski season (Really! I didn't know that).  I have used backcountry.com, backcountryoutlet.com, sierratradingpost.com, chistrysports.com (look in the alpine warehouse), and peterglenn.com among many others.  I also have notification bars for steepandcheap.com and tramdock.com that are always on.  SteepandCheap and Tramdock are hard to beat but you have to watching when the deals come up.  I usually find something I want and do a search specific to that item and can usually find a pretty good deal.  Last but not least, eBay, craigslist, and of course this site in the gear swap section.
The world is full of people who think they can but few who try.

You are very right on the shops, I rarely buy parkas and pants at the shops for that very reason, by the time you get a deal pickens are slim!  I am specifically looking for web deals.  I knew about Backcountry & Sierra, but wanted to see if there were others that I should be checking in on for a deal.  Thanks for the new ideas!

Peace,

Ken

i bought a download "2" jacket from www.levelnineports.com  for 59$.  This jacket has stayed waterproof as long as my north face. i think is a 10,000mm with all the essential pockets. they also had some other good skiing items and amazing deals. I also go to outlets and look for 2nds items.
think snow!

What do you use for your insulating layer on that BaconandEggs?

It's worth a trip to a TJ Maxx if there's one in your area.  They sometimes have some decent parkas in stock and when they do they're deeply discounted.  Personally, I'm hesitant to buy a parka on-line unless I'm sure it fits and I'll like it.

Depending on the day of course, but on average I go with a thermal (Helly hansen),  back protector (Head), and a medium fleece. on cold days i exchange the fleece for a synthetic down. On warm days drop the fleece all together and open up the pit zips.

I agree with walt about TJ Maxx...  If you have time to wait by your computer try Steep and Cheap or Tramdock.

SkiPro or Christy Sports has fairly decent deals on prior year's namebrand stuff. Wherever you shop, I really wouldn't wait until the end of the season this year. Suppliers have really cut back on inventory production due to the economy. There won't be so much surplus at the end of this season, so deals will be harder to come by.

I think B&M stores have better deals than online ski clothes. And its more worthwhile since you can personally inspect stuff and try it on.

I have found good deals at porterstahoe.com and sierraskis.com.

The old standby's are SAC and Backcountry.com and backcountryoutlet.com.

Sierratradingpost.com has been running big sales recently and you can sometimes get 50% (or more) off Arcteryx () which is anti-gaperwear.

About what BaconandEggs said... levelnine.com has great deals on helmets, parkas and skis.  You have got to check there

I lost interest in Sieeratradingpost a while back. Most of their stuff is 2-3 seasons old and the asking prices on some if it is rediculous. With the really good stuff like Arcteryx,  you definately need to be quick on the draw. Most of their sizes are in the S, SM etc.  A size L won't last long.

Ditto for levelnine. I never purchased clothing from them but have got some killer deals on bindings.

Arcteryx Matador, Hades, Easyrider, Trident, Apache, Sniper, Atlas and Titan currently (and for the past few weeks) available in L in multiple colors. That seems like a fair amount of time to me.

OK, maybe 55% off isn't ridiculous to you for Arcteryx, but to many of the rest of us, it's a license to steal.

Appreciate you losing interest in STP - gives me more time to get some great deals.

I guess it depends on what you are shopping for. If you want a soft shell, you should find something. I already checked sierra's a few weeks ago for any jacket deals. The only serious snow jackets were for women -- and it's pretty pricey for 2-3 year old goods. The rest of the stuff is shirts, thermals, and wind stopper type stuff more sutibale for fall and spring. All of it really is kind of pricey for goods 2-3 seasons old.

If you look at Sierra trading post remember to do a coupon search.  20% coupons are common.

So sounds like most go for the shell and layer solution rather than just the insulated parka.  I'm 5'9", 205, 46" chest, usually an XL parka and L pant.  Any brand / model suggestions to go along with all of the other great suggestions so far??

First, check every TJMaxx and Marshalls in your area. Sierra trading post had some good stuff a the last time I checked, which was when they were running labor day promos. Sign up for their emails and you can get coupons that occasionally push things at 40% off their regular prices. Backcountry's family of deal sites: Tramdock etc, have something decent almost every day, but you need to keep an eye on the sites with their trackers and jump when they have something that meets your needs.

Tramdock and Steepandcheap are both great options if you are willing to invest the time to watch them (as people have already stated). However I might suggest you also watch Brociety and Whiskeymilitia. The former is like tramdock, but snowboard themed. The later is a more general deal site. However, I have seen them both put decent skiing jackets up from time to time. Might be worth a look when tramdock is running a deal on skis you don't want

I'm all about TJ's & Marshalls, but unless I'm just ahead of schedule, they are not stocking as much this year.  A buddy of mine who reps a few lines says that production has been way down due to the economy so these places might not have much to offer this year.

So if I go the Shell route, give me some suggestions on Brand and Model...

OK and if I go the on-line route - whats my best bet on a shell (Brand & Model)?  Again 5'9", 205, 46" Chest so usually an XL parka, on the hill 45-50days a season in all weather...

Was off work today and went to my local TJ Max. At my local store, the mens winter items didn't seem to be well represented but the ladies gear was pretty abundant, with lots of Spyder and Columbia stuff. I really didn't need anything but got a pair of lightweight smartwool socks for $7.99 -- originally $24.99. I will keep them for when mine wear out.

Another good online spot to dig through is geartrade.com  It's often a lot of gear returned to backcountry without tags, anywhere from almost new to fair condition.  Bought a few things from them and couldn't be happier.

I found the most reliable websites are google and bing.  Do a little searching and you'll find what you're looking for and the best price.  I just bought my daughter a Spyder jacket.  Last year's model and she preferred it to this years colors.  After a couple of weeks of looking; local shops, online stores and searches, we found it at iskishop.com for less than anyone else.  $70 plus $9 shipping.  It list for $174.00.  Yes it is a real one.

As a PSA, I emailed Spyder to see if I could have a powder skirt added to her jacket and not void the warranty.  Not only did they say I could add it, they are sending me the powder skirt for her size - free.  How cool is that?!

I have been using a search engine called www.thefind.com
If i know what I am looking for, it has found the best price for me.

Great info.  Thanks everyone.  BTW, stopped in to my local TJ's today - still not much out but they just added a rack of Rossi parkas.  Check this out - bought a Rossi, model was Sharp GTX, Gortex, pockets everywhere, pit vents, detachable hood, thumb through cuffs; waist gator - $450 list for only $199.  So mission accomplished locally.  Will still be checking all of these on-line resources for other stuff though.

Looks like PSIA has some great opportunities to save this season as well for those of us who are members.  Nice Patagonia mid layers for much cheaper than the retail stores - with PSIA logo...

Thanks again all. - Ken
