Need advice: Atomic Nomad Blackeye vs. Crimson, TI vs std...

Hi,

I need some advice on whether to buy a set of Nomad Blackeyes or Crimson, and whether or not to get the TI version.  I demoed the Blackeyes a while ago, and loved them, so I originally set out to get them, but then some say the Crimson are better, some say not...  Also, I can't seem to find any info that would help me decide between the TI version and the standard version, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

About me: I'm 6'6" and ~285lbs, and a pretty aggressive L7 skier, but I pretty much always ski on-piste...

Thanks in advance!

StartHaus skis deals #3 is up. Check the thread in the members deal forum. Better than web prices for members only.

 Yeah, you're probably right...

Just one thing though, is that I can't remember if it was the TI's that I demoed or not.  Is there a simple description of the difference in performance/handling/whatever anywhere?

Where do you ski, and how fast?
For your size it should be the Crimson TI.
Why are you looking at an all MT ski, over a crave ski, if you mostly stay slopeside?

Mostly ski around Washington State, but sometime head up to BC for Whistler or Big White...  and I'm pretty fast, but certainly not racer-fast. I'm looking at the all-mt skis for 2 reasons: firstly because I loved the blackeyes, so I'm biased towards that type of ski, and secondly because I don't buy skis often, and I don't want to be limited if I do want to go off piste...

Oh, and thanks for the advice. Very helpful.

I ski the Crimson Ti and love it.  Definitely get the Ti version of the Blackeye--the Crimson only comes in the Ti this year--if you decide to get a Blackeye.  However, for your size I would recommend the Crimson Ti or maybe the Savage Ti (93 mm underfoot).

the crimsion is similar to the monster 88(now peak88). i ski that for my on-piste days and love it as a carving ski! with your size i think you would enjoy a wider ski because it will be more stable and usually more damp. have you heard of the fischer big heat?

This is a really fun ski that likes to go fast and carves amazing. it is very stable and a unique ski to see out there these days. if you are stuck on the atomics i would go with the crimson! go big!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've ended up ordering a pair of Crimson TI 178s (with the neox 614 bindings), now I just have to wait for the snow to start to fall so I can try them out!

I think you made a wise choice with the Crimson.  However, I hope you have tried them in that length.  The Crimson is my all Mountain ski (more off than on-piste).  I'm 6'4", 205# and really settled on the 183 cm length a couple years ago.  It's a great ski that takes me anywhere except the deep pow...
