A nice cold Bluebird day in Chamonix - perfect for a little ski testing.

The ridge itself was a little too icy to ski. I dropped in for some south facing windblown and got a few nice turns before it got ugly.

I had to traverse out about 4 turns lower down to find somewhere to jump the rimme (Bregshrund)

Things got flat quickly, so I headed downhill, just downhill enough to get some turns in

Nice enough turns, but then again I have to walk back up. I'm standing at about 3450m and the lift station is at 3800m - having not been up here in a while it's a fair old slog.

Quite a slog back up the ridge - My buddie Jok ahead of me

nice one Tom!

If God hadn't meant us to ski, why did He give us mountains, snow and gravity?

Fabulous!

Are the ropes from the top of the tram maintained in the off season? If not, how do you get down that first 100 meters?

The ropes are only maintained during high ski season, when the glacier is in good condition. In the winter of '01-'02 they didn't put them up till the 3rd of March!

On this occasion I put crampons (metal spiky things) on my feet, an ice axe in hand and walked down as most folks do. But when the snow conditions are better like my previous trip (http://www.epicski.com/forum/thread/86196/testing-my-new-hemp-skis-aiguille-du-midi-24th-september-09) I prefer just to ski straight out the door.
