Where can I get some binding screws?

I've looked all over and can't find these anywhere.

I need four screws for the heel piece of Rossignol Axial 2 World Cup
Maxflex bindings (binding to race plate). They are #3 Posidriver 9.6mm
pan head, screw OD 5mm, head shoulder 3mm and serrated, screw pitch
6/cm. Two are 15mm total length and two are 33mm total length. I've
enclosed a picture.

1)  Ski shop.   Go down to the service shop and ask -nicely-

2)  Check old Look or Atomic bindings at your next ski swap.   Atomic ones are often black, but should be long enough.

3)  Someone here probably has a bunch.

it's wierd. you cannot buy a set of screws, easily anyway. I always end up down at the local shop looking through boxes of their extras. It's tedius because each brand has its own particuluar set of screws. You have to bring in what you're trying to  match. and still, one should be able to order sets of screws without a hassle since the heads get mauled so easily because no one has a real posi-drive head screw driver. obviously, skiers are not supposed to meddle in this sacred area of binding mounting and set up, only explanation I can figure that you can't just buy the things.

Have you tried Terry at Slidewright.com? When it comes to tuning or shop supplies, I'll bet he has what you need. And he offers a discount for EpicSki supporters.

Alpinord AKA Terry does carry binding screws at slidewright.com last I heard.  If he doesn't have it, he will most likely know where to get it.

Kind of beating a dead horse, but if I recall correctly this difficulty is exactly why he started carrying them. 

Doesn't look like the longer one is on his list, but if you drill down to the detailed page for the screws, it lists alternatives for difficult screws: "Take picture of existing screw and send it with dimensions.
  • If in doubt send us one and we'll try to match."

My ears were burning....

I've had several requests for these screws (I also have these bindings). Generally, proprietary screws are not directly available. I need to pester a shop owner bud again about obtaining some........



The panhead we carry is in the middle.



Here's ours next to the Look heel binding screw.

After discussing options with a customer, I suggested that he try grinding the screw head to fit the binding hole:

I used my drill press and a file to do the heads,i screwed them in a plastic drywall anchor to protect the threads in the chuck,then spun them and used a fine file to machine them down, used my dremel cut off wheel to cut the right length,then used a grinding stone in the drill press to bevel the tip off the screw.... Thanks for the push in the right direction!!! Pass on the info to anyone else who can use this. I will be putting in an order with you soon.

Part of the discussion was to consider grinding the head of a typical binding screw to form a pseudo panhead to fit.

EDIT:
After re-reading the response, I thought it best to clarify that the panhead mod above was for a different binding screw but the approach using an alpine screw may be worth a look if you cannot locate replacements elsewhere:

Thanks for your response. I have no problem trimming length or reducing the head size, but I'm at a loss as to how to add length to the screws. Product ID: SVATC has a longest screw of 28 mm, and two of mine are 33! The design of the binding is such that the last 4 or 5 mm is what grips the plate.

Do any of you machine-shop savvy people know of distributor that might be able to get real binding screws (especially if referred to in the technically correct way, not as "binding screws")?  I doubt the binding companies are making their own screws.

Or can someone who works for a shop just order some?  They are in the spare parts catalog, at least for the brand I have a copy of (not Look)...ten to twenty bucks for a box of 50, depending on size.

Terry from SlideWright told me that they don't carry the longer screws. He mentioned that a Look rep who's a member here may know where to get them. Does anyone know who this is?

I guess we should be harvesting the binding screws from all those old skis that (avert your eyes, readers of the Retro Memories thread) go in the dumpsters after ski swaps.

Yes.    

I doubt any of the RM readers will be crying much over those Omni Chiaras, DV6s, HyVitronics anyway.
