Pilote Custom Skis
The First Auction of the Year and one of the Best Ever

This auction will end at 7:00 PM PST, 10 PM EST  October 31, 2009 (Halloween)

Up for auction is one pair of  Pilote custom skis to be built to specifications of the auction winner.

The winning bidder will get their choice of virtually any ski shape, size color, pattern and construction  they can think of!. The winner will design their custom skis with Kyle for fabrication.

Standard construction of every Pilote Custom includes:

  • Grade 4001 Black Base*
  • VDS Damping strips
  • Heat Treated Edges
  • Tri-axial Fiberglass
  • Core Woods of your Choice**
  • Custom Printed Graphics Top sheet***
  • Hard Maple Sidewalls, Oil Treated
  • Full Tune, Including Base Grind, Polished Edges and Wax
  • 1 Year Warranty

This auction is for the standard skis.  the winner may add optional Carbon Fiber for an additional $50 and/or 7075 Aluminum for $125. However, If the bids exceed $600 carbon will be included in the auction price, OR 7075 will be an extra $75.
If the bids exceed $675 7075 will be included in the auction price.

Bid Format

Bidding will start at $200, and all bids must be at least $10 higher then the previous bid. There is no need to list your desired skis specifications; we will figure that out at the close of the auction.

Note: $100 of the proceeds go to EpicSki and the remainder goes to Kyle to offset his cost of constructing the skis.   Please be generous and lets help Kyle to launch his custom ski business.
Read more about Pilote Custom Skis or order your own pair.

Here’s a few examples of his work from 2008-2009:

*I will entertain other color choices, but would really recommend that you order black bases; they are more durable, easier to repair and finish better then the lower grade colored bases.
**Ash, Maple, Poplar, Beech, Pine. Other species may be available.

***I prefer that you supply the graphics, but I may have a graphic design student who is willing to do these for a small fee.

A slight clarification regarding the carbon and 7075:

If the bids exceed $600 carbon will be included in the auction price, OR 7075 will be an extra $75.

If the bids exceed $675 7075 will be included in the auction price.

I have to work with some fairly nasty etching chemicals to use the 7075, hence the large cost.

Cirque, sorry I wasn't a bit more clear in that PM. If this is too much let me know and I'll pull the post.

Thanks guys and girls, I look forward to working with the high bidder to create something sweet!

-Kyle

Thanks Kyle.  Feel free to post clarification at any time.  How long do you think fabrication will take and the skis will be available to the winner?

That's a tough question, as a lot of things come into play. The biggest "delay" tends to be hashing out the details of the design, especially the graphics. I'm going to contact a few people here on campus and line if someone with good photoshop skills in case the customer needs assistance. My goal would of course be Christmas at the latest...

I am also thinking that I will restrict this pair to the black 4001 base material, that way I can put in an order now and have the majority of the supplies ready to go.

Everything else looks good!

Although, I do have to say that it's still just an offer at this point.

I haven't done anything with rocker to date. I am willing to give it a try, but can't make any promises until the actual ski design and rocker specifics are discussed. At the moment it pretty much boils down to how many changes I have to make to the mold, and how much those changes will cost.

Rocker should be a small change...

You guys are making Kyle nervous!   I respect the tradition of spiking a bid at the last minute, but lets see some support for the ingenuity and unique opportunity this represents.  You design them, Pilote builds them to order.

Just three more days to bid and get the exact ski you always dreamed of.  Capture that vision in a ski.
Design it from top to bottom to stand out in performance and appearance, like no other, no limits!
Then go ski it like you stole it.

Halloween evening activities probably took several people out of the game for last minute bids.

If sense were common, everyone would have it!
