aggielucas, tell me, was there anyone with as much flair at the Gathering as Annie at Snowmass?

Maybe Bklyn?  She's got serious flair!

Annie gets to keep her crown IMO.  Nothing beats this particular outfit although you did come in close 2nd with those pants.  I don't think either of you would get lost in the trees.  I only got to ski with Bklyn for a short time.  I think she was worn out from ripping up Snowbird.  She did have flair though!

Cheers to that!

My hope is that in twenty years this will be known as greg1s2ski's first Gathering, the one that bumpfreaq missed and the one where The Edge of Never was screened right before it became a national sensation =)

My dog loves the bumps too.

Several thoughts there.

Issues with lives "off the slopes" kept a few of the regulars of this event from gathering with us this year.  There were a few regulars we all missed this season,  you being one Bumpfreaq. I suspect we will see you in 2011, and I look forward to it.

About the movie.   At our meeting on Wednesday afternoon we gave out copies of the movie to deserving individuals, with the understanding that these copies would be passed along to other Bears.  SugarCube has yet to see it as she didn't attend The Gathering. Once she has, per the , my signed copy will head right off to you Chris.  Please send me your physical address and someday it will arrive in the mail.

Any chance some lingerers want to head back to Alta tomorrow?

Most of the lingerers were at Solitude today. Had a fantastic day -- a little more low key than the previous week, but we scouted out a few tree runs with some steepness.

Thanks to everyone I skied with all week long -- had a great time with everyone.

The VA,MD,PA crew flying home to BWI & IAD may be out of luck for a while.

They may have just got the biggest dump EVER !  (records are 28 in in DC, 26.5 in in
Baltimore.  Totals may be 30 inches followed by high winds & cold.

FKN unbelievable.

I had to come home to N. Virginia from the the Gathering Monday due to an ankle injury.  To those who hope to come home to this area anytime soon.... good luck!  I've been here since 1971 and have never seen anything like it.  I work at DCA and talked to the supervisor in the tower.  He said the airport may open tomorrow night but probably not till Monday, on a limited basis.

Hi All,

Want to thank those who skied with me at Alta and Snowbasin. I had a good time. Somehow, word got around if you are ‘injured’, ‘sick’, have “jello for legs”, ‘really, really tired’,  'bad knees', or generally have something wrong where you cannot ski to your maximum then go look for anjinsan……..you can always ski with him. That’s great, as many eventually ended up riding a lift or gondola with me and it was fun meeting you.

Attached is a picture of the group at Snowbasin. As per my offer anyone who wants a 5x7 of this pic I will send it out…free.

Bad news though. After getting home on Friday I took the family to the local hill on Saturday.  Around noon I had a very small wreck…..no big deal really, but landed wrong and I apparently tore my LCL. My knee is extremely swollen and I am done, done, done for the season. I am near tears right now but what can you do.

As we were in the Ski Patrol shack, the EMT was looking at the knee and strongly suggested we go have an x-ray to see if the ligament had torn out a piece of the bone. I said sure we can go. My wife, who just started skiing 3 years ago and is VERY enthusiastic, was sitting next to me on the bench. She put her hand on my thigh and looked up at me with her big blue eyes and said,”Honey, can we wait until 4:00 when the lifts close. I want to take a few more runs?????”. She was kidding…………I think.

If anyone out there has had this injury could you PM me and tell me what I have coming up. Am I done for years? Will I be able to go next season? I called a friend and they said five years for recovery….is this true???? Once surgery is performed are there specific exercises that will help get me back on my skis?

Rob, thanks for the pic!  I'll send a PM for mailing.  You can attach a much higher resolution photo, and it will automatically resize for the forums, but open to original resolution when clicked.  It would be great if you could increase the size of the attachment a bit for those of us with older eyes.

Sorry to hear of the injury, and wish you a speedy recovery.  You might want to post this in the Fitness, Injury and Recovery forum where others can and will share their experiences.  I'm happy to say, I have no experience with the LCL.  I'll hope to catch up with you for a few runs on the next trip.

Bummer about the LCL injury anjinsan.

If you look in the Fitness Injury and Recovery section you'll probably find some information.

IIRC this one had some good info in it.  Hope it helps.

That's brutal Rob -- I had a great time skiing with you, and it's a shame that you're not going to be doing any more skiing this year. Hope the recovery goes smoothly.

Sorry to here that! Five years sounds like a long time. I highly doubt recovery would be that long.

I enjoyed meeting and skiing with you. You are an easy guy to be around. You need a bigger truck LOL.

Still in Oootah. Skied Powder Mt today with bluebird conditions.  Two Inbounds runs in "Powder Country" away from main area down the road to a shuttle bus pickup location.

One snowcat ride ($15 extra) way up the hill between the two base areas for untracked powder
Grrrreat !!

Now bad news today- 3 runs before the end of my trip (11 days skiing in past 13 days) I snagged a rock flipped forward and kind of hurt my knee. I'm hoping it's a minor sprain. Won't know till tomorrow.

Second bout of bad news: My previously scheduled BWI flight tomorrow is canceled.
SWA is canceling all BWI flights Tuesday & Wednesday due to another freeking snowstorm.

Can You Believe That !!

This time 16 to 20 new inches due.Phila to get 24 inches and NYC to get a dump this time.

Bottom line BWI had 8" 2 weeks ago + 24" sat + 24" week before Xmas + 16" next 2 days
= far exceedes all time seasonal snofall records in history.  period

Between last Friday and next Thursday Southwest has had NO DC or BWI service except
a few limited flights today.  I wonder if  JohnL  and others ever got to BWI post gathering.

Sorry to hear about the knee injuries to both Mdskier and Anjinsan.

Rob, have the surgery done  (if needed) ASAP and get on your mtn. bike as soon after as you feel able, with a knee brace if possible.  There should be no problem with skiing next season though the leg may feel a little tight to start out with.  It should actually be stronger than the other knee.

Best of luck with the recoveries guys.

That's what sucks about travel in the mid-A region.  A lot of areas (and airports) simply surrender in the face of a storm, sometimes closing airports in advance of storms.  Maybe they don't want all the airplanes stranded there on the ground.  But it can be frustrating when you're trying to travel.  I am sure some people will have to cancel ski trips this week simply because they can't get any flights.

I guess you could fly to Raleigh and then drive from there.   Shoot me a pm if you opt for that since I live 5 miles from RDU.  Good luck.

I'm starting to get pretty pissed off at Southwest and at BWI. I was supposed to arrive at 3:15 PM today, well before things got nasty. Supposedly, flights landing after 2PM are cancelled, but looking at BWI's web site, there are several flights arriving after that. Maybe it's at the airline's discretion?

Southwest is again being extremely customer-unfriendly about this. As of yesterday, the only alternative location you could fly into (without buying a new ticket) is Virginia Beach. The catch is, all flights into there are booked until Wednesday PM. I'm taking my chance on a supposed Thursday arrival at 1:30 PM. I'd have to find a way to get from Virginia Beach to Northern Virginia, and then find a way to get up to BWI to dig out my car.

Unless you are a business traveller, itinerary changes flying Southwest are a crock despite their claim of no "rebooking fees". You have to purchase a new ticket (at short-term prices which are 2-4 x the cost of your orginal ticket.) You get a "credit" of your original ticket price (normally purchased at long-term prices, so you are still paying $$$ extra.) They have slightly changed this procedure during these storms by allowing you to re-book into the same destination (or Va Beach for BWI). However, those flight options are extremely limited. They are not allowing you to rebook into a different destination which may be less weather affected.

Train travel is also a mess into the DC area.

Only good thing I'll say about Southwest is that your bags fly free.

If I don't get into BWI or an alternative location for free on Thursday, I'm gonna start a website called SouthwestSucks.com

After this experience, I'm not sure if I'll ever fly Southwest again.
