I own 178 Missions, they should be fine most of the time.  They are my "go to" ski & I live in UT.  If it happens to get crazy deep & hopefully it will, you can always rent some crazy, freakish, fat rockered ski you've been wondering about .

Ah....don't worry about it.  If BF can't find you a snorkle we can steal a small section of garden hose from somewhere.  No-one will miss it....it will be mid-winter.

You can unroll your turttleneck to cover your mouth and nose...or use a gator..or just remember to breath between turns when you rise out of the pow a bit.

Just remember (cause you are short) if your head doesn't reach the little red line at Alta....you can't get on the lift.

Man, this sounds like a great time and I would really like to meet the Bears. Emailed my sister to see if she is interested too. If she is, we would like to get in on a house with a 2-4 people. I guess flying in Sat and out late on Thursday. I will update my status once I hear from her.
Fell free to pm me if you are putting a house together.

What's everyone doing about lift tickets?

Don't see the "freebie day" pass... but maybe I'm not looking at the right place...

You mean the Super Pass? You need to book lodging to get it with the free day.

He means the Quick start pass that is good for the day of arrival at any of the PC resorts (PC, Canyons, or Deer Valley).  You have to register ahead of time and show your boarding pass and voucher at the ticket window.  No lodging is required.  http://www.parkcityinfo.com/static/index.cfm?contentID=1047

Actually, it's the Superpass I was thinking of.

So... is that what everyone is doing?

Where can I find any detail?

Here is a helpful page.  http://www.visitsaltlake.com/ski/superpass/  Canyon Sports also finally has their ticket prices posted except for Alta.

I think for anybody staying a few extra days, buying tickets at Canyon may be a better deal.  We won't know for sure until Canyon announces their prices for Alta.

When I was in Utah last year, I think I rememember that the discount ticket at Canyons for Alta was only 1 dollar less than purchasing at Alta provided you skied at Alta the prior day. So you had to ski two days at Alta to receive a discount for the second day that would match the Canyons discount.

It is definietely worth buying tickets at Canyons for the other areas . The discounts were pretty decent.

If you are booking lodging at the same time I think the Super Pass would be the better deal than Canyon Sports. A 5 out of 7 Super Pass w/ lodging is $224 which comes out to about $45 per day. So if you are skiing 4 or 5 days and need the lodging book them together if possible.

Keep in mind that the Superpass in only good at the Little and Big Cottonwood Canyon ski areas and not at Snowbasin.

True but with 4 days at Superpass areas, getting one free covers the Snowbasin day. You would still be skiing 5 days for the cost of 4.

I called a couple lodging places (Laquinta and Super 8) in Midvale to get the scoop on Lodging.  LaQuinta said that their rates would go up, even double as the time gets closer.  i suspect that Super 8 will do the same.  They both offer group rates but they are not any better than you can get on line right now.
I've stayed at both of these places and both have waffles, etc in the morning and both are nice.  Here it is:
Laquinta one or two beds/people $58.50 (AARP)
Regular rate one or two beds/people $65.00
Micro and Fridge are extra about $9.00 - $20.00 depending on what else is in the room.
The number of rooms at these rates may be limited.

Super 8 - $50.00 Reg or Senior single - add $9.00 for extra person/bed (nonrefundable rate)
$53.00 Senior single - add $9.00 for extra person/bed (refundable)
$59.00 regular rate - add $10 for extra person/bed (refundable rate)

The Laquinta rep said that the Super pass was $50 last year and likely will NOT change much if at all.

It would be nice if a bunch could stay together, especially for driving, etc.  I will have a 4wd and would be happy to drive to/from the mtns.
What are your thoughts?  Laquinta or Super 8 or elsewhere?

I stayed at LaQuinta for the 08 Gathering and it was nice.  I think it was around $70, booked late, so $ 58 with breakfast is a heck of a deal.

I did a quick tour of the Extended Stay in Midvale  last year.  I know Ski-3PO stayed there for the 08 Gathering and liked it.  The rooms were large with full kitchens, so I am "going on the cheap" this year staying at the Extended Stay in Midvale. The location is excellent, within a few miles of 3 of the 4 areas we are skiing, and close to a Canyon Sports Outlet for those that need tickets. I know Matt is also booked there.

Best deal I found on that was through Expedia.  The fourth day is free.  Rates run about $ 43 / day during The Gathering. Total with taxes etc $ 287 for 6 nights starting 1/30.

I also stayed at the Extended Stay in Midvale last year and my only complaint was the lack of cooking utensils.  Other than that it was great and cheap.  As long as you are there to ski and not much else 'cause there is not much else to do around those parts.  We can always do the apres at the big house (see above post), they did offer by the way.  I think we will book at the Extended Stay but may look at getting another house to share.

Haven't been on here in forever but just saw this... travel.southwest.com/specialoffers/topOffers.html

I may have to book a ticket.  I just need to decide how long to stay and who to share a room/ride with. :)  Never skied Utah, I hear they have decent snow?

Yeah Gary, we're still alive.  I see that it looks like a great turnout for this deal.  I'll think about it throughout the day and will probably go ahead this evening for the flight.  I just need to decide how many days I can afford.  Who am I kidding?  How many days I can survive skiing powder in a row.

Airfare from Detroit to SLC just went down ~$100 today.  Not sure if that has any import as far as the rest of the country but just thought I'd throw it out there.

My dog loves the bumps too.

Would be willing to discuss trading couch space in Logan, in exchange for someone to get up and early and drive me to the bird.

Mike,  I'm skiing Vail the morning of the 30th then driving on to SLC.  I can get you over to SLC but not back, if you want to consider a one way flight.
