Stowe doesn't make top ten for the East? Behind Sunapee and Holiday Valley? Can't wait to see the whole list, did Woodbury Ski and Racquet beat Stowe too???

It's interesting that Stowe is No. 1 in the East for Skiing magazine, http://www.skinet.com/skiing/resorts/2009/09/resort-awards-2010, but didn't even make the top ten in Ski Mag.

Also, Whiteface was #6 in lodging for Ski mag.  I thought the nearest lodging at Whiteface is 8 miles away.  Obviously, most Ski subscribers don't rate S-I-S-O as highly as I do.

On Ski's top 10 for snow, Okemo (200 in. annually) came in #4 and Sunday River (155 in.) came in #6, but Stowe (333 in.) didn't make the cut.

Sunapee got #1 in grooming!  They must do a very thorough job of grooming their 100 annual inches of snow over their 230 skiable acres.

And Seven Springs beat Stowe in apres ski activities.  Forget the town of Stowe, VT -- Seven Springs has a bowling alley!

Wow, Whitefish Mountain Resort is probably FURIOUS.  They are listed at number 7 in value as.....drumroll...... BIG MOUNTAIN!!!!!!   The old name!!  HA!!!!!!  And again at number 6 for scenery, once again as the old name!  I wonder if the print versions of the list also came out with the old name?

I LOVE IT.

There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment.

Don't confuse snowfall totals with "snow". For the majority of Ski magazine survey responders "snow" = groomed corduroy

You may be right WWF -- although there was a separate category for grooming.  Of the East Coast lists, 8 of 10 resorts that made the "snow" list were also on the "grooming" list, and vice versa.  If I were doing a survey where two factors had 80% correlation, I'd start to wonder whether I had adequately defined those two factors or whether both were thought by the target group to be the same thing.

First, I haven't received my issue -- has anyone else?  I think the mailman "borrows" mine every once in a while.

Second, now I'm totally confused -- and I may have provided bad info.  Apologies to all. It seems that the "overall satisfaction" top 10 list is not the same as the "readers survey results" ranking.  When I said before that Stowe didn't make the top 10, that was the East Coast "overall satisfaction" list.  But it looks like Stowe came in #3 in the reader survey:  http://www.skinet.com/ski/resorts/stowe   Also, I said that Alta came in #1 this year, but that was in the West "overall satisfaction" rankings; in the "readers survey" ranking it was #28:  http://www.skinet.com/ski/resorts/alta

Guess I should stick to my day job....

That's how I read it too. Seems like overall satisfaction would be the final result.

I haven't gotten mine yet either. Skiing just came yesterday. Maybe Ski will be here today.

Mine came over the weekend.  Guess I shouldn't have been so quick to blame the mailman.

Forgot to bring it into work, but some of the rankings stuck in my head:
  • The West seemed fairly predictable: Deer Valley, Whistler, Vail at the top three spots, with Beaver Creek moving up to #4, and then some musical chairs on down.  Anyone else think there were major surprises?
  • The East: #1 (Trembant) and #3 (Stowe) were predictable, with Smuggs at #2 a bit of a surprise, and then IMO a lot of surprises after that -- e.g., Sugarloaf and Sugarbush out of the top ten, and Holiday Valley (with its 750 feet of vert.) coming in 4th!
Enjoy every sandwich.
