Looking to buy 1st set of skis

I live in Texas and would like to get out skiing a few times a year, probably a level 4, 5'10", 135lbs.  New Mexico is closest at about a 13 hr drive and is probably where I would spend most of my time.  I have only been out a few times over the past couple of years and feel great after day 1, but the following days I feel like I am relearning everything because I am renting on different skis or boots.  My father in law who has been skiing for several years will usually be skiing with me and provides lessons.  So I was looking at buying a setup, relatively cheap.  I know going to a boot fitter is the first step, but finding a good ski shop around Austin, Texas is a little tough.  The ones I have visited provided no help at all.  I picked up some new Lange Fluid 80 boots pretty cheap from Evogear and they fit well with my slightly narrow foot, and feel tons better than the rentals I was in.  I was looking at Evogear for some used skis, and like what everyone had to say about the Dynastars 4800 and 8000, but am a little clueless as to the length.  The last rentals I had were 150's and felt great by the end of the first day, but switched to a tighter fitting boot and it threw me all off.  My weight says to go 150-155, but my height says 165-185.  The 8000's come in a 158 and 165 (about $300), but not sure if it is too much of a ski for me, and the 4800's come in a 154 and 160 (about $200).  I understand that the 4800's are more flexible and could help out with me being so light and still a beginner.  I don't mind telling people I have a short ski, even though everything is bigger in Texas, I just want to make sure I don't too short to where it will hinder my form.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks.
BTW, this forum is great, been reading for a couple of weeks and everyone seems pretty friendly and knowledgeable.  I found tons of posts on lengths, but since the length depends on so many variables, I thought it would be safe to ask.

I also found some new dynastar dstinct ($200) and dstinct plus ($240) in 160 from levelnine and it looks like those are more suited towards beginners.  At my 135lbs is the difference in stiffness going to be noticeable?

Anybody know the turn radius of a dynastar 4800 in 158cm? All I saw was 19m, which I imagine is for the larger size.  Thanks.
