Skiing Magazine releases 2010 Resort Rankings
The rest of the lists were pretty much as you would expect. Personally, I've always felt any of the rankings in the top 10 were pretty much interchangable depending on personal prefrence.
The first list is pretty in-tune with conventional wisdom about places that are good for steeps, snowfall, etc. I see they gave mention to one of your top chairlifts; KT-22 at Squaw.
I liked the second list, best of the rest, because it told me about some stuff I didn't know like making a good alcoholic drink out of maple syrup & lemonade, and cheap places to stay near good skiing

Smell that? Winter's coming!

That was kind of covered here (said in a condescending tone, if that helps):

Thanks. I feel suitably dissed.

While there's no doubt, for example, that Arapahoe Basin and Aspen have some great steeps, I cannot see ranking them above Big Sky in that category.
Oh well...good to get the juices flowing for the new season. The best mountain is still the one you're skiing at the moment!

There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment.
I slide.
Under the radar is such a fine place to fly. Lived in a town that got best 10 list in a major magazine, dang near ruined the place.
Now you won't be so lonesome up there. Somebody else can help you track up the goods.

The Steeps of the East
Well, the good news is that Baker, like the rest of the PNW, has a bit of protection by virtue of location. When the closest semi-practical lodging is 20 minutes away and available services hover at just about zero by resort standards, you do not exactly get throngs of vacationers.
And the fact that all the western WA Cascade areas suck & have heavy nasty terrible snow...
Control. Freedom is control.

The heaviness of the complexity fuels the force behind the dart that hits the mark.

Hey, first post over here. Not too worried about RMR going under. Lots of construction going on at the base of the mountain right now with about 100 workers finishing the second building of Nelsen Lodge for this season as well as the services and road construction for the second neighbourhood going in before snowfall. They have sold another 8 condos in the lodge since spring and are planning construction to start on the golf course next spring. Nothing new on the mountain this winter, but the owners are trying to build the infrastructure to make the area a four season resort.
I hope the best for RMR, but they have a tough row to hoe. But for Skiing to say a remote, two year old resort without much infrastructure, very few hotels or restaurant's and barely any base area is #5 and then not even include a place like Squaw Valley in the top ten? That's stupid.
Yep.
It isn't stupid if that's what you're looking for. Here's a place with legendary terrain, size, vertical, and snow that has few people and no glitz. It's difficult to get to so only dedicated skiers will be going there, at least for now. Now why wouldn't it be in the top 10? I would much rather go there than Whistlerland or any other big mega resort. I have no opinion on Squaw Valley since I've never been there to ski, but Revelstoke looks just like the sort of place I would find superior.
I slide.
True last year. This year Alta came in first for "overall satisfaction" in the Ski survey : http://www.skinet.com/ski/resorts/2009/09/top-10-lists-reader-resort-survey
IMO it depends when you're going, & for how long. If your trip is in April or May Mammoth is a no brainer, but can be crowded other times. In Tahoe you'll find good steeps & bumps at Squaw, Alpine, Sugar Bowl, Kirkwood & even Heavenly if there is much snow. Mount Rose also has some good steeps when avalanche control is done.
