Ok ,so I read about a thousand ski rental posts but did not get a clear answer so on this specific angle....

Can you rent big-mountain or powder skis (ie.K2 obsethed, blizzard answer IQ Max, volkl kuro, k2 hellbent, Solomon rocker....) around salt lake city?

Best case scenario would be up near Alta or Snowbird.

What can I expect to spend per day dor just the ski rental?

thanks,

Thanks,

I actually started my search there before posting.

They do have some great price lists that I had previously perused including their demo gear prices.  They do not really tell on the sites what they actually rent at any of the places other than at snowbird they feature Dynastar.

Last year, at snowbird, I wandered into the snowbird Cliffhouse area and noticed they were selling a lot of Dynastar 8000 demo skis (I guess this is where some of my worries about being able to rent big fat skis came from.) But honestly, when I was there I had my own boards so did not pay much attention.

So , do the shops at alta or snowbird rent big boards (ie.K2 obsethed, blizzard answer IQ Max, volkl kuro, k2 hellbent, Solomon rocker....)?

They probabbly won't list specific models until the season starts.  Alot of resorts will only have a few places that will have the "high performance demos" so maybe you went to the wrong one. The Alf's demo center is the only place I have checked out in any detail and they had all the fat models and I have seen plenty of guys on rental pontoons at Alta. But, the only way to know for sure is to call the shop and ask if they will be demoing powder boards or whatever.

I gave up long ago trying to rent fat skis when you NEED them. It's a race to the ski shop on a storm day and then you are lucky if there is anything left. On top of that, who wants to spend the first hour or two of a powder day dealing with getting rentals? I have been successful at times renting the night before when I know a storm is coming, but you can't always plan ahead for powder.

So before my last trip out west I found the best deal I could on some fat skis. They weren't much more than renting for a week (Ebay FTW). It was well worth it......waist deep powder for days!!

Now what I did was adjusted my quiver to add a 'fat-ish' (94mm waist - the other one was 98mm) ski that I can actually ski occasionally in the east and be a one ski quiver out west. I think that is the best way to go.
