Wow, scary win. Troy is out 3-6 with a sprained MCL and he was the best player on the field last night even with the 2 personal fouls. He will be missed.

Also scary was the lack of a running game.  The Titans are excellent on D so I won't hit the panic button yet  but there is no point either way. The Steelers O-line have no veteran back-ups so it is what it is but they stashed undrafted rookie Issac Redman on their practice squad. Redman, nicknamed Red Zone at camp because he would consistently score in the team's goal line drills, was their leading ground gainer in pre-season often getting tough yards after initial contact. Willie Parker is in the last year of his contract and no talks were held to sign him to an extension. Mendenhal, last years 1st round draft pick, has not impressed me at all. It will be interesting to say the least but the Steelers are the champs because of Ben's arm and his ability to shake off would be sackers and make crucial plays. That's is exactly why the Steelers won in OT last night.

Ben was great last night. Holmes and miller too. You're right about the running game, I hope that was mostly the Titans D and not our guys sucking. I hope Troy comes back strong. Whatever the case, I'll take the W.

The running game sucked because the O Line sucks. Another thing, they better work on their pass protection too before big Ben goes down with a career ending injury. He's the only thing that won that game as well as the Super bowl. He goes down, forget it.

It seemed to me that the O line held well. When Ben has the ball that long, eventually they will get through no matter how good the line is. Where the line failed was in making room for anybody to run.

No running game at all is very non-Steelers football, and devastating to see Troy out with a knee injury.  Uncle Louie and I scored tix to go see the Steelers-Bengals game in a couple of weeks and had our hearts set on seeing #43 on the field.  Still, there were definite brights spots in last night's game and they've got 10 days 'til Game 2.

The Boyz are back!

No running game is becoming the norm. Last season they were 23rd running the ball, unheard of for the Stillers of yore. BUT THEY WON THE SUPER BOWL. Arian's single back offense may have something to do with it but he used rookie Frank 'The Tank' Summers as a blocking back a lot last night. Summers ability to block is one of the reason cited for Redman being on the practice squad and Summers made the rooster despite his preseason injuries limiting practice and playing time.

O-line did a good job on pass protect and even Ben says that at least half of past sacks were on him because he holds the ball in an attempt to make a play. Sometimes it cost a sure score like last night when a 19 yard sack moved the ball out of FG range. More often he makes big plays so the coaching staff and the o-line accept that. Run blocking, so far I'm inclined to agree with Lars. O-line sucks.

Beginning of last year they couldn't run block or protect the pass. They obviously can learn, I hope they figure out the run soon.

Pretty quiet here and I guess there are more than a few football fans happy about the Steelers  losses. How about some analysis from the faithful or put downs from fans of opponents?

Honestly, I'm glad they lost last night.  The week prior, the media, the team and the general fan base around here was starting to remind me of band wagon Wings fans.  I kept hearing about their problems, but everyone saying, "it's fine, we NEVER lose in Cinci"...like it's the Steeler's birth right.  Remind you of anyone?

Last night's loss was karma.  Fix the problems and stop sounding like Wings fans that expect a God-given win (cup).

Just the impartial view from someone who is not really a football fan, so I have no loyalty to any team.

Analysis??? hmmmm, I'm a fan, but how long it gonna take for them heads to shrink enough to put them back in a helmet? You'd think seven months would be enough. The fourth quarter in Cincy was embarrasing, glad i woke up to watch it. Did you see Sanantonio sitting on the bench pouting instead of cheering on the D?

Too many mistakes.

The  biggest difference was Carson Palmer started passing in the 4th quarter and the whole tone of the game changed.

SugarCube is a lifelong Steelers fan and it was the very first time she got to see them play in person.  We were just behind the goal line and watched the last 2 minutes in total disbelief.  The nail in the Steelers coffin happened right in front of us, and it sucked.

Nice analogy, Matt but I feared that Cincy's time was due, especially at home. You can't deny that on the offensive side of the ball the Steelers beat the Bengals in every category except one. The D allowing 2 long scoring drives, being unable to protect a lead (a meager one compared to the stats) and doing exactly that two weeks in a row, now that gives me pause to worry.

The only big head seems to belongs to Santonio but last weeks missed TD catch and blowing his route (at least it looked that way to me) that led to a pick six and the D blowing a lead had better shrink some egos.

epic, what can be said about Sweed that hasn't been already said. I almost feel sorry for him. Santonio needs to focus.

We had a running game and Ben was kept pretty clean.

Coaching staff: Wasup with a field goal with 4 and 1 inch to pay dirt and going for it on 4 and 3 at the 35? I can accept the FG but I really thought Ben was going to pooch punt.

On Matt, I kinda liked Fishy's bluster. I understand where it comes from.

Sigh...it was a great first half, a disappointing second half.  We really need Troy back out there..he's still got a decent limp when he trots around on the sidelines so hoping he's mending faster than how it looks.  The D was the big disappointment...giant holes in the secondary and the Bengals barged through easily and frequently.  It was good to see the signs of a Steeler rushing game again...Willie put together some nice yardage IIRC.  Oh well, it's only the 3rd week, I'm not giving up hope yet.  A little more "oomph" by the D and a little more concentration by the WRs and we'll be back in fightin' form.  Now all we need is to keep Ben healthy....

How bout them Jets?

As I said before. The O line sucks. And if it weren't for Big Ben's scrambling abilities, they would be 0 and 3

Good week 4 for the Boyz even though they tried to throw it away in Q4 again.  Whazzup with the 4th quarter freezes now?  Yikes, this isn't good for my blood pressure!  Jeff Reed--nice to see you blast that last FG when it counted: woot!

Good battle of Ohio in the earlier game too.  Looks like the "Who De" Bangles decided to play ball this year!

Few offenses have been able to go deep on the Steelers but the underneath quick pass is what seems to be a problem. This was last year's #1 Defense, they'll figure it out. People wonder if the D is getting old and too tired by the 4th. I doubt it, the O has consistently given the D  bench time most of the first half .

Wow, wassup with the D? I take back my last post as Culpepper burned the secondary for several deep passes. It's a good thing that Harrison of last season finally showed up to get 3 sacks and force an interception. Steelers really need to get Troy back. Arians gotta wize up and stay on the ground especially when the running is doing well and you have a lead in the second half.

Bengal in first place in the Central after beating the Ravens???? Whodathunk?

Ready for some of this old magic?

It's actually the Vike's O-line that folks should be worried about.  My 6 year old daughter could complete passes with that much protection.

Looks like the SI cover jinx is alive and well!

I'm a pretty big Favre fan (us old farts have to stick together) and I was genuinely sorry he had the day he had, but oh so happy to see not one but 2 Steelers "D-team" touchdown.  Flashbacks of the 09 Superbowl and Harrison's trot for 6 points...whee!  Good to see Troy out and and about...the defense is taking a beating but from the looks of today's game, there's enough depth to keep us competitive.

Penn State, Pitt, and the Boyz all won...it was a very good weekend!

Anyone catch the end of the Ain'ts VS Fins game?  Ricky Williams wouldn't have been dropping the ball all over the place if they'd just told him it was a joint!
