If you live in the east, and have skied on; 210s, Look Nevadas N17s, VR17s, Zebras, Head Standads, etc,,,,,we are interested in meeting you to video tape you.

Now if you know what a long thong is and what it is used for (and actually used one), or have used a Rosemount,,we really really are interested in you!

We want your skiing experiences, your childhood adventures, your feelings about skiing in the "early days" on tape! Will travel to your region in New York State, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine! Will ski with you and video tape you! Will then give you a DVD once project is over!
Notify us via this site! We will acknowledge all calls!

Be sure to hit Wachusett in the early AM any nice weekday morning.  There are @ 100 retirees there every weekday for a couple of hours (most live locally, but some even come from CT and RI regularly).  They call themsels the "WOTs" - Wachusett Oldtimers.  Most are 60-70, but several are in their 80's.

Several 60-year-olds still race in the Night League (yours truly included).  At least one 70-year-old also.

Massachusetts (and several states) have Winter Senior Games for athletes over 50 as well.

I'm always in the wrong place when these things come along. I'd mount up my Head 720's again for something like this, if I could find another set of Salomon brakes from that era. These skis will do a number on you if you crash with "safety straps". Ouch!

If you can't ski, do tricks!

I might be able to help you guys out. I've assembled a 100+ pair "working museum" of vintage/retro skis from the mid 60's though the 90's. Many of them still get out for a few runs. Maybe a tour?  Have a look at this thread;

http://www.epicski.com/forum/thread/69076/more-retro-memories

You will see some of my stuff plus much more from many other equally "sick" Bears as well .
Let us know if we can be of any more help as we collectively LOVE this stuff!

You might even consider coming up for our planned "RETRO DAY" at Stowe this December!

My dad would make a great interview, it wouldn't be hard to prompt him into a monologue about the virtues of Rosemont boots and Cubco bindings.

The heaviness of the complexity fuels the force behind the dart that hits the mark.

You should post your notice on snowjournal.com and alpinezone.com
New England geezers (I say that affectionately) peruse those sites.

Might as well throw it on Time For Tuckerman as well.  You will probably be able to get some good footage of some relics skiing up in the bowl this spring.  Good luck, and be sure to let us know where to find the final product!!

I started skiing 60 years ago with wooden skis without steel edges or "bindings" and the first "lift" was a rope tow powered by a Mode A Ford.  I've tried to ski every year since then at least once per year.  Bindings used include: Leather clamp, cable "bear traps", Ski Free, Cubco, Look, and long thongs.  Places include, MN, IA, WI, KS, CO, MI, AK, Japan, Vietnam(on sand), NY and 6 Northeast states.  My long thongs were on my 6'9" Northland wood skis back in the 50's; Now I ski on 150 cm Rosignol straight skis I've salvaged from someone's trash which I enjoy.

Its guys like you that still make guys like me feel young enough for a new season.  Bravo!

Other than the fact I don't ski in the East the first post kinda hurt.   But hey, why do I care?  The snow is softer here.

My dad skied on Zebra's at one time, had Look Nevada N17s and used Rosemount boots too. We made lamps from my mom's Rosemount's. My parents ski weekends in Southern VT.

I am totally serious about Weems.
He's in Aspen now but coaches for EpicSki Academy at Stowe, weekend of December 11th.  He's an incredible part of the skiing world, has skied on equipment that is unimaginable to folks like me.
It will not likely be possible to get him during the clinic, but he may make time before or after to help you get the goods.

Its real possible that folks like Rossi Smash will be there on Friday the 11th as well......

Easy, he's a site owner here,  follow the link in my earlier post to see a tad of his history, follow this link to send him a message through his profile.

Let me know when you're in the MA/NH area and I'd be glad to show you some of my old stuff from the 50's and demonstrate how I ski now:  Skis with old bindings, rope tow tow grippers, old gear.... Yes I have skied with Iong thongs too and still ski in many of the Northeast ski areas from Yagoo Valley, RI to Jay Peak, VT.

I've got some old ski stuff in my gallery on Snow Journal(My ID there is "jedk"):  Ski tickets, tow grips, old lift, and my NSPS patch from 1964--still have that old ski jacket.

Thank you Trekchick for comments.
What I am interested in is the "encyclopedic" knowledge in the minds of the  older skiers. The kind of information NOT published! The feelings. The experiences while skiing in the 60s, 70s, 80s,! That you can not find in books, on net on U Tube! It is slowly being lost!

At Stowe we have a couple of ski instructors who have been working since the 50s or at least the 60s. Matter of fact, I think one guy that retired last year started in 1947. You could interview him. I could probably hook you up with 5 of them.

I will be in Stowe meeting another "mature" skier who now has an inn. Can you send me information about this skier! I am willing to call him/her to set up video session.
Thank you so much.
