I was wondering what general comments can be made concerning positioning bindings forward or rearward of the "stock" position, and if there are any specific accommodations one can make for individual preferences in skiing style. I remember reading a number of years ago that women in general benefit from placing the binding forward of ski center because women have a lower center of gravity and that doing so would help in turn initiation. There was a comment I read in a forum here last spring where a bear mentioned that the ski he was reviewing didn't come into its own until he had moved the binding some 7 cm(!!) off the mark and another thread where the poster wondered if the manufacturer had mis-marked the ski center.
I am thinking along these lines because I became enamored of the Blizzard Titan Eos last spring at a Blizzard demo and bought a pair from another forum bear. After reading several rave threads about the Supersonic, I got to thinking about what a great two ski quiver the Eos and Supersonic would make for traveling, particularly as I could switch one set of bindings between pairs, so I bought a pair of Supersonics last week ($655 at Sierra Trading Post). The Eos came with two holes drilled in each ski, one at the point stenciled "regular" and the other about 1 1/2 cm behind, which is virgin. The Supersonic has one hole per ski but even so, the IQ system's key and notch system of mounting the binding toe and heel pieces makes it quite simple to experiment with placements of several cm forward or rearward without having to drill any new holes. I just wanted to know what to expect if I do, indeed, experiment with this in the coming (Epic, let's all hope) season.
