The "Resort Quest" picture (the advertisement here on Epic) is driving me NUTS.

None of you have spotted the obvious problem with the picture.......or is it me.  I know I'm getting old.......I know I haven't been on skis since April....and I know I've been working WAY too many hours.............but PLEASE.....will one of you tell me I haven't totally lost my mind?

What?  You think the pix looks like Breckenridge and they're promoting Aspen?

They should have darkened the sky a bit to make it look like a night shot. Or they could have turned the lights out in all of the buildings.

Actually, I'll all but bet that shot was taken 1st thing in the morning.  There is more light on the mountain tops (above treeline) then at the base, typical for that area.  You can see the grooming machines on the left side of peak 9 (far left edge of the picture), still grooming with their headlights on.

If I squint while looking at it I see Abraham Lincoln riding a horse.

They do that regularly in ads with photos of the Tetons.  I'll be watching some tv ad or reading a magazine and they'll have Mt. Moran to the south of the Grand Teton.  I always do a double-take because it looks so "wrong".

The Resort Quest photo looks "so wrong" I had to look at it for awhile just to be sure it really was Breck.

Now I'm intrigged!

How the heck do they manage to do that (without deliberately do it on purpose, that is)?

It's not like they use "negative" any more these days...

It's PhotoShop stuff.

I wonder if they wanted it to look like Ajax/Highlands.

the design team felt there was more negative space for the format of the wording so they flipped the shot.

they didn't notice,
most gapers wouldn't notice.

'n you probably aren't going to not go there 'cause of it...

so, the managing company isn't that worried about catering to the more soulful/purist (ish) skiers that would notice something like that,
doesn't make as much money

I mean, who cares about the shape of the mountain, how's the food and amenities?!

How about being honest to the skiers, it is a skiers community they are advertising to.

 ^^^

It's a google ad, not developed and directed to/for epicski.  Many members of which have never been there, including me.

Probably pops up in a lot of places the word "ski" pops up.

I'm not saying it is okay or good, just that the management and designment often aren't skiers, and often aren't worried about getting "skiers."  They are interested in east coasters that vacation out "west" every once in a while and will spend money on resort amenities.

Oh, wait....

I'm just happy that I didn't recognize that as Breckenridge, and also that I didn't know it was wrong...

I don't read real estate ads. The Ten Mile is my view when I walk to the paper in the morning.

What kills me is this:

Considering how awesome Terry(SlideWright) treats the bears on his product and knowledge, I'll overlook a Comprex looking kind of ski dude in the ad.

No offence intended to Terry and his generosity. I appreciate all the sponsorships and the fact that I can air my views in the forum for free because of them.

I really like the site and I have learned a lot from the dialogue that it supports. I've also made a bunch of friends here.

Is that really how Comprex skis?   I've not been to an on snow event so haven't actually seen any bears ski.

I've dug a hole that I'd like to crawl out of with some dignity.

Lets just say the SlideWright skier would elicit some extensive commentary if he asked for an MA.

Red Pants isn't airing his armpits and at least his head and torso are somewhat normally aligned.

No hole at all, you are right in the description of the skier in the ad.  It kinda makes me chuckle too because he's sort of animated, ya know?

The difference I was pointing out is the mass marketers like Aspen/ResortQuest, who are google ads, in relation to someone like Terry who contributes to the site.....So, lets start a thread picking on Terry about his animated Comprex-ish skier dude.  Knowing him, he'll chime in and become part of the fun banter.  Really, he will!!!

Heck, he posted this when we were talking about Waxing vs Shaving

Is "Comprex-ish" in the Encyclopedia of Skiing?

"Trekliese" = skiing while wearing triangles?

TC, thanks for the background (pun unintended). Someone else can start the thread, I just had to get it off my chest and the OP opened the door for me. MR
