Good news for some, as a dealer I am happy but as a collector I am concerned.

ASI (American SnowSports Industry) announced today that have received $1.8M in U.S. Government funding to start a ski stimulus program. With the success of the C.A.R.S. program, the ski industry was able to secure funding for a similar program. Starting today, the Cash for Gaper Gear program goes into effect. In the defense of good taste and the progression of the sport ASI, rebates can be redeemed for the following ski equipment...

$100-$150.00 Straight skis (value depending on length and remounts)
$25-$50.00 Non-indemnified bindings (value depending on DIN and the amount of Delran in housing)
$75-$125.00 Rear Entry Ski Boots (the less buckles, the higher the value)
$100.00 One piece ski suits (must have neon and at least 12 zippers)
(one article from from each category per transaction)

ASI hopes that this program with savings up to $425.00  towards a new ski package will help stimulate the ski economy for this upcoming season. The proper forms are currently being faxed to participating ski shops. Please contact your local shop for details. Offer is not good in Canada or the state of Northern California.

All gear that has been deemed unsafe and in poor taste will be removed from circulation.

That's it. I'm mounting my 505's on my next new pair of skis. Or maybe I'll just use my 710's as my "rest of my life one-ski quiver". Or build a ski press and laminate new bases on my harts. I only have six pairs of old skis to defend, but I'm there with ya, Rossi.

Yeah, Lars, I think he's joking.

Depending on what bindings are on the TNC's you might qualify for the whole amount.

"$100.00 One piece ski suits (must have neon and at least 12 zippers)"

So, the fart bags with too many zippers emit more greenhouse gasses?  That makes perfect sense
I'd rather be skiing

I'm a bit surprised that ski poles aren't on the list.  After all, old poles can be hazardous if they're not properly maintained.

I am guessing the EPA provided some of the funding here.

What about ski totes?  You think they would take those in as gaper gear, worthy of   $$ to dispose of it?

i've always thought that some kind of program like this (not government sponsored) would be good for early season trade-in sales...

<shrug> If the take-ins are donated to charity (and used to train backshop recruits), and the shop got a tax break, would you still object to gubmint spancership?
