Back Pack suggestion-

looking for a smaller sized (no more than 1000-1200 ) H2O compatible backpack. Heading for Valle Nevado, so I am looking to use primarilly for hydration, carrying extra goggles, layer, and associated stuff. Also will be doing some hiking so I need to strap ski on the pack. I ordered a Camelbak Snoblast but I am looking for suggestions of others.

I have a DaKine pack.  Don't know the model but it seems perfect for what you want.  It has a hydration hose sleeve into the shoulder strap with a hook inside the pack to hang the bladder.  The pack I have did not come with the bladder.  The cool thing is the quick, cable ski attachment system that mounts the skis at a slight angle vertically on the pack.  There are also good straps on the side if you prefer to mount skis in an A-frame.  I have used the side straps to attach my boots with the skis mounted with the cable.  Plenty of room for skins, shovel probe & extras.  It also has a special goggle pocket.  The pack skis great & has comfortable shoulder straps & waist belt.

I also looked at Camelbacks, but the quality of this one seemed better.

yeah, that does sound better. If you can find out the model, it would be cool. much thanks!  Looks like it could be a Pro2. It's 1600 cu in. not that much bigger.

I bought the Dakine Heli Pro last year and it worked well.  Hydration compatable with an insulated sleeve...bring your own bladder.  It carries skies diagonal.  Room to stow gear.  Camara pocket on the belt.  Padded goggle pocket.  Zip out water bottle carrier for summer day hike usage.  I think that you can pick them up on sale right now.  Try REI.  It is, however, probably larger than you are looking for but you don't have to fill it up.

Camelbak SnoBlast, not too big, has an insulated hose and valve that closes so you don't haveany dripage.
Big enough to have a few incidentals without being so big that you feel like you've got a full pack.

Nice features with the waist belt/storage. I have a dakine bladder already, so I am good to go there. It's a little larger but it has sinch straps.  Any differecn between this and the pro2?

TC, this is the one I ordered (got it for $50) but only issue is ability to comfortably and realistically strap on skis, no waist belt but has great pockets and good size.

LOL, I should have read your post twice before posting my thoughts.
I really am blonde.

Have you considered a separate ski harness?
The ones they used at Aspen Highlands were handy and easy to stick in your pocket, leaving room for you to have your original SnoBlast.

I have to get my 100th post here so I need to respond.  I think the Pro 2 allows you to carry A frame whereas the heli-pro only accomodates diagonal.  I haven't used the Pro 2 so I don't know the other features but the Heli-pro has lots of cool little features.  The Dakine web site has excellent comparisons.  The Heli-pro is on sale at REI for $45 right now.

+1 Dakine Heli Pro II.  I rock an older Dakine Heli Pro pack and have always said it was the ultimate Aspen Highlands pack.  You can carry your skis up the bowl, pack a lunch, extra gear, water, etc.  Yet it is slim enough so that you can still ride up the lifts without having to take the pack off (big plus in my book).

Those Higlands harness/strap devices are pretty cool if you take the minimalist approach.

Went ahead and ordered the HeliPro as well. It's really a sweet pack. Just seems a little more funtional and useful than the camelbak. I will look at botht and return one, but that heli is sweet, I ordered from BackCountry although it's more than the REI, I really liked that black Chop shop, plus they back up their stuff 100% if it ever breaks or tears. Much appreciated!   Johhny, yes a big plus to not have to off-load the pack. Just hope my 136 tails will fit into the bottom carrying loop.

Hey Finn, I have a good idea.
Why don't you order the HeliPro and compare it to the Camelbak and return the one you don't want to keep.

Or, you could sell the one you don't use to a deserving bear.

If it is the same cable loop as mine, it should be no problem.
