I had an SCX pretty similar. I did Tuckerman's with a pair of blue/white SCX at the time cause they were the lightest skis I had. I think they were maybe 170 which was 23cm shorter than my skis.
Still, are those retro? Or they're for later in the day retro?

Are you afraid of those P20 SL's?

We are now one month from Stowe Retro day.
Is ANYONE thinking about showing up with their older gear?

If so, let's here from those who are planning to be there and what you plan on skiing

If I can get my Dobies and the 218 Rossis to be friends I promise I will do at least one run on them, but that's as retro as I get.

They were probably a 173, not a 170. The Blue was the "Cap", the Red was the Monoblock. a beefier construction. I acually liked the blue, it was a bit softer torsionally and they could modulate a turn a bit better than the Red or the beefier RP (Raised Platform).

I'm thinking about trying to come to this, but I've honestly got to say... if I shell out the $$ for a Stowe lift ticket I'm not sure I"m going to want to commit to old skis for the entire day.  Kind of seems like a waste!  Anyone else having this dilemma??

No problem. I think that is a question for many.

Last Spring we skied the old stuff early, then switched over "as required" later in the morning.

So don't let that stop ya!

Old skis need love too

I don't think I will be making this trip. Sorry. Trust me, I will be there in spirit.

Man, if I can break the old carvers out... Sigh!

Sorry, I know I hinted about joining this group, but I can't make it. It's not in the cards for me, but I will try to make  the spring retro day.

I thought we were supposed to show up with  old tech, in my case, that would be leather boots with laces and buckles and 207 skinny straight Kazama telemark racing skis. Switching to carvers midday sounds like a good plan.

163 SCX is the most technologically advanced ski I've owned. At 12 meter radius it had less sidecut than my other boards, but close enough, the others were snowboards . I've stepped back from the cutting edge with more recently acquired longer, straighter skis. If it's OK to rock the parabolics for retro day, that will make it a whole lot more fun, but I'll bring the Kazamas too. Using SCX on retro day would be cheating in my opinion, very, but would allow me a better chance of not getting dropped by the group.

Tog, the blue SCX were kinda squirrelly. Skiing Tuckerman with those sounds ballsy to me. You must have skills. I've never been to Tuck's but that model gave me trouble on blue Pennsylvania groomers. The red ones on the other hand, wow. Carving as easy on skis as on a snowboard!? Wow!

Well skiing the SCX probably would be cheating a bit, though it's better than uh...those leather things! Maybe SCX for mid morning?
We've yet to get a ruling here from Rossi and Phil....??

I'm sure Rossi has a pair of straight skis he'd lend you....

Skiing them at Tuckerman's wasn't bad. The top wasn't open, so it was just the bowl under the rocks and the snow was soft. That was the only time I've skied it. Skiing the headwall with SCX's would've been interesting to say the least!  I was glad i took the light pair. I only had a day pack and didn't take a tent, just a stove. You can't camp near where the lean to's are so it was way off to the left, I forget the trail name. It was quite a hike to get to the base of the bowl though.
I guess I'm going with the Volkl P20's.....I can choose 200 or 205cm, maybe I can find my stretch pants.
Should I have the bases ground? What base bevel does one use for a straight ski?

Well, all I've ever done is file the bottoms flat, edges @ 90 and on some skis, slightly "detune" the tips and tails a bit with a stone. Followed by some wax if I was really going all out

With the underwhelming response of people planning to come I may ski "straight" early and switch to contemporary around 11. We shall see. I may go with an 80's theme now.
