So Trek, you'll be "experimenting fully with other options"?

I hope Phil has something for you to wear. Maybe his mother in law's old outfits. He could probably recite what they were.
Which brings me to my slight beef (ok, it's really Beef Satay), with a Ms. Robin Barnes, esa Big Sky coach. Our group was having dinner. I think we were having a discussion of past gear? Not sure, as Robin is not a big gear talker - "Hey Robin what are you skiing on?!" she'll say something like, "Uh...gee...(looks down at skis)...Nordica!...uh...you know...something or others!" Obviously the gear has little effect on her skiing.(Really, we should have her be first tester on Bob Barnes's 'Kramelet' binding)

Anyway, Philpug somehow lets out that he knows every single ski that his mother in law has ever skied on. Well of course I couldn't let that opportunity go by after being at the Retro Day at Okemo so I immediately quizzed him to hear the list. Well Robin wasn't interested! I attempted to get the list again a few minutes later but received the ol' 'look of death' promise if I continued on such a course. I suppose she figured it would be like watching paint peel off the walls and would stifle all conversation. She probably had a good point. However, if you are into hearing such bizarre gear tales, and Rossi's (frankly even more bizarre) tale of all the models of his mom's bindings, somehow flash ROMed in his brain by age 13, then Retro Day is for you!

If we do have Retro Gear Jeopardy and I'm the host I'll have to have a live connection to MidwestPete for the correct answers. If he comes, then we'll have to reconsider. There's only so many people who know about this stuff.

Now, here's the thing. Isn't Esa Stowe this year including Friday the 11th? In other words, it's a three day affair instead of two like last year. Is this true?

btw, I have a pair of Volkl P20's. Actually, (and this might score me points yeah ok, a decimal point anyway), I have two pairs. The original 205cm's I bought and then a pair of 200's I got a couple years later off a friend. My only other pair probably doesn't qualify since it's first gen shaped. Rossi 9x 9.9 in a 191cm.

It might be fun.  I still have K2 710's, KVC's and two pairs of Four's in my garage.  And I think I saw my first ski jacket in the bottom of a bin, but I doubt I can fit into it anymore.

Bump for more feedback

How many would have interest in Retro day if we do it on the front end of the Stowe ESA?

This is Friday December 11, 2009.......now just over 4 months away

Is no one else thinking about skiing yet???
skigypsy is looking for NE based skiers from the 60's and 70's for a video of memories related to skiing during that time frame. He will be filming @ Stowe during this weekend....

 Had frost two mornings already.

Do I have to try and get my old 218s going? They haven't touched snow in at least 10 years.

I wonder if I my Dad's old leather boots would fit me... Then I could strap on his Kinessel White Stars - I think they're 220s...

I also think I'd be in for a rough time!

I've got to put in my two cents for the END of March, if not April!!  Retro days mean daytime drinking, which means nice weather, which means spring.  Somehow in my mind that's just how it works!  I just can't see pulling out long boards and sitting around the keg in a t-shirt in December...

JPH...don't worry. A March event is a given. Think of this as more of a season kick off with a RETRO twist.

Rossi ,
You are really impressing me! I have two huge cartons of these! Those are the exact ones everyone will get,,if they are "dressed" retro AND must do at least; a rueul christie, a Stein Erickson flip, a Wayne Wong banger, or a simple stem christie à  la Walter Foeger!

See you all at Mad River Glenn  ,,in April??? Bar B Q outside,,,Coronas etc,,,,

May I suggest an  April date Rossi  Smash for Mad River "retro days'!

May I suggest April 9, Friday since I am going to met staff at Mad River Glenn soon, I could get some support from them as far a Bar B Q, events etc,,,,,! Also local media could be called as well as major state beer distributors ( since they often have special events trucks available)!

I will wait one week for "acceptance" of this date,,if no response I will not go on with plans!

Friday is great day since few skiers, "tired" skiers can stay to recover,,etc,,,, Also I can video tape all the "mature " skiers all Friday nigth and also Saturday in the area!

4/9 is doable for me at this point, I was going to rotate the buttons on my dress shirts that day, but I could move that back until 4/14 if I move re arranging my sock drawer to 4/17. .

We will need some favorable blessings from the weather gods with MRG in April though. We could have either Stowe or Sugarbush as a backup though.

Skigypsy, I'm loving the idea but share Philpugs concern about snow conditions. Could this be bumped forward to mid to late March? It is also a L O N G  way off yet. You won't get many to commit.....I can't get folks to confirm December's date!

Let's hear from others that might be interested in participating in this Spring Retro event....

AND...we still need to concentrate on STOWE, FRIDAY, December 11th ( that's TWO months people!)

You are right. Let us all concentrate on the Stowe event then,,,,,,  the events and weather will dictate time and location of later retros!

Consider me a definite March or April date Smash.  Right now anything sooner is too fluid with work.  If we get some good snow I don't think I'll be the only one for 2nd-half of EC season....

Rossi, Stowe has not disappointed me on the ESA weekend.  One year it was marginal weather wise, but Stowe did their best to give us some good skiing!

Surviving is essential, thriving is incredible!

For some of you that do not have such an inventory as Philpug and Rossi smash,,I know a ski shop that has in the back room some "old" skis which they will provide for $25! So if you are looking at some fluo "specials", some rare K2, or those rare VR 17s! I went there yesterday to buy two very special skis (from the 70,s) from a ski company that no longer exists! Hint,,,it has four steel edges! Yes 2 per side!
Will go great with my Rosemounts!

Time for a bump...

Epic was talking about it snowing on the mountain and snowmaking just about ready to get underway......

So

Who's coming up to play on Friday?

Just over a month away now

Let's be clear on the date of this. We're talking Friday December 11, 2009 right?

(all this retro talk makes me think I'm in the Twilight Zone, so I put the year in)

If it's 2009, what year skis qualify as Retro?
First or second gen shapes allowed or only straights?
Would an Elan SCX super radical shape now be considered retro? Unfortunately I think I got rid of them though. Rossi, you really need some of those in your collection. See if you can find some of the experimental ones they made in a 200cm and tested at Okemo. Truely scary I've heard.

Yes....2009

Tog, I've got a pair of the red SCX's from around 1998? How do you like these numbers;
174cm, 112-60-100.........What do you think the Turn Radius is on them?
