2010 Season Retro Day New England

Bears,

I'm getting this started early so many of you have time to prepare!

Since we can not poll any more I guess we need to do this the old fashioned way.

Now I'd like to try for two different Retro days next season. I'm thinking one in December and then one

in March. Now last years turnout was small but FUN, see;

http://www.epicski.com/forum/thread/82501/mini-retro-day-at-okemo#post_1081223    for a report on last year.

Suggestions, thoughts, possible dates.....let's hear it!

December is going to be tough for me, busy season and I already have 3 days at Stowe for ESA earmarked besides "Retro Day" is more a "Springtime" event (except for the OP, this it is 365/24/7 ) .

If a 99'-00' ski can be labeled as Retro..;-), I think I'll be able to make it...

Every time I see this thread at the top it looks like it says "Retro Day 2010 in ENGLAND"  I picture people skiing in outfits looking like the guards at Buckingham Palace It must be just me as I'd love to hit the Bears'  NEW England Retro Day

Smell that?  Winter's coming!

I'm really hoping we can get a good turnout this coming season. That's why I want to get as much feedback on what dates might allow the most people to attend.

So bring on the input!

If you are willing to be flexible in doing an early season retro/repro day, how about the Friday before ESA Stowe..at Stowe? There will be a great turn out there.

Philpug, that is certainly a possibility!

Let's keep getting ideas from all the interested Bears and see what works for the biggest group.

This of course means you might finally have to ski with me too
Maybe I can scare you up a pair of brakes for the 444's on the ROC's...but then again
I know how much you like safety straps

Ski brakes!? This is starting to sound like the "retro" bike ride Rossi posted about where every rider was sporting styrofoam headware! Haha! I was feeling guilty about considering bringing safety release bindings to this event... I guess that faux pas would go unnoticed. Cool, I heart the safety release bindings! Anything goes then...?

OK to sport a helmet at this event??

Rod...this is a loosely interpreted Retro event...not a pure vintage ski day. I'd say folks can bring whatever they've got that would not be considered current. I'm already thinking of my ST 650's w/Look Nevada/Gran Prix bindings....or maybe the K2 Cheeseburgers w/Spademan's or maybe Volkl Zebra's w/Look's or....well you can see my problem!

I think Rossi's having problems coming to grips with....possibly....he...uh...likes...the...'new'...skis.  He's already collected more 'new' skis than I've ever owned at one time.  This is why he really needs a retro day - so he can make use of all that equipment in his museum and stay with the roots.

If you're on the fence with this event I'd recommend getting off it. For just the conversation alone - between Phil and Rossi, it's worth it.  Those 'in the know' about retro gear should step up and contribute to this one.  It's definitely something worthy of beholding - the conversation is priceless.  I'm not sure how we managed it, but last season it was warm enough to eat outside on retro day - a rarity in Vt!
Perhaps this season we could have some sort of retro Jeopardy game - now that could be interesting. "Bindings for 500!"
We could also have the 'most excellent new ski invention' award.  This year's award would go to Bob Barnes for his " Kramelet" binding. That's where the heel is fixed and the toe is free. Requires special straps for the lift....
Possibly, we could have it live online.

Tog, you're back! Welcome

The "new" skis are a curiosity. I am still more comfortable on my old faithful companions. But I had to get a few pairs to fully experiment with some of the different options

Throwing out December 11th as Philpug suggested, at Stowe and the front end of the EPIC ESA.
How many think they just might be able to work with that date? If not, but interested in a Retro day, what date and where in VT would you like to throw out there?

Makes me think of people skiing naked while covered in blue woad and shaking spears.

Thanks for the welcome back.
(cue "Welcome Back Kotter" song from the 'retro' tv show w/ Travolta)

Well the question is, are your old companions faithful or are they experimenting fully with different options? .

I think the 11th sounds fine. Who knows. I'd say another day should be tried also later. I'm wondering if we should have one of these at Mad River Glen too? Or would no one notice anything?
Plus if Bob Barnes is there for the esa, you'd get some good info, along with Weems who used to compete on half the stuff you guys are 'skiing' on.
