LOL such a JONG :)

you either use straight up platform(IE both Sides) or straight up SPD for Downhiling or any serious form of biking.

Losing your flat side of the pedal only to try to stand on a SPD side or trying to clip into a flat pedal both are very scary thoughts.

No serious MTB I know uses both sided Pedals and actually like them.

???  like a clip  that retrofits the pedal to make it like a non-clip pedal?

I'm not ragging on your Fuel. If all I had was my Giant, I'd rent a bike too. You'll have more fun on an 8" travel DH bike. If all I had was slalom skis and I went out to Steamboat, you'd probably advise that I demo fat skis, right?

I am definitely up for it. I can see after watching the video that my beloved Fuel is not up to full-on DH.  Lets put something on the calender. I am admittedly a complete novice at DH so as long as you don't mind riding with me.

Finn, you originally asked about something that was user friendly and easy to get out of. I don't know of anything that fits that description more than the Speedplay Frogs. These are by far and away the easiest to get out of, as there is no spring tension to overcome, and for that reason they are the most knee friendly to boot. Plus they give you a wide range of float. I know that there were some complaints in the past about problems with mud clogging them up, but the new cleat system that they came out with a few years ago seems to have taken care of that, I have had no issues with the new ones. I know some of the real hardcore guys probably will have something to say about them, but I'm not that hardcore, and from what I'm reading, you're not either, you're just looking for something that will do the job with a minimum amount of hassle. I also use the Speedplay Zero's on my road bike, wouldn't use anything else, and I've tried most of them. Give the Frogs a try, you won't be sorry.

Epic is great to ride with and very patient. Bringing a Fuel (or Liquid) to Diablo (and Kton) is lie bringing a knife to a gun fight. You do have a chance with the knife, but will get much more out of the gun. I did have a good time with my Liquid on some of the trails at Kton, but if I had a more appropriate bike, I would have had a better time. This is one of the reasons I stayed on the blues and easier black MTB trails, my XC bike really showed it's limits.

MAc, thanks, the 520's release very easily. I am very happy with them, You had to kick out far wider with the 'tragers. Thanks though

Phil, yes, right tool for the job, hey, this is like a fat ski vs. skinny ski discussion! :)

Wow, the arrogance, I guess we are not worthy to be in the presence of such a superior MTB'er.

plus he didnt asked if he should get platform/or clipless he asked what clipless pedal he should get. He already choose. Its right above your post. You just wanted to troll(successfully) and post about how you can ride platform pedals. Good for you! I bet you would be able to go faster though anything on clipless pedals.

The majority of bikers in my area all run platforms. If an air goes wrong......, If a berm busts away......

rizcorpl, I get the idea that you're not talking about an XC mtn bike.

While I agree that the OP did not specifically ask for clipless pedal information, the application he is using them for is likely not the same as what you're using your bike for.

Sounds like you have some experience doing some pretty cool stuff tho.  You should start another thread, or perhaps a Trip report to show us some of your riding style.

2nd that, how about different style threads, It sounds like "features" berms, jumps banks, almost BMX.  Sounds cool.

Phil, what's the model? That's a really cool setup I wonder if it tramsits more pedaling force from the shoe to the pedal given more surface area contact?

They came on the bike I bought Ty, he just wanted a regular pedal for tooling around campus. I tried them with my current shoes and were fairly easy to get in and out of, but I am not sure how easy if the shoe was all muddy. I plan on using my regular SPD if I am XCing but for lift access I will swap over.

i've worn out a couple of ATACs but believe they are durable. Lasted much longer than the Shimano XT, but those were from when Shimano XT was the only clipless mtb pedal. Back then, the release on Shimanos became more difficult when the cleat was worn down,  I got stuck in one and hurt myself a little. New Shimanos might be different, though they look the same to a casual observer (me). I've only used the original model.

ATACs release easily, I disagree that any experienced rider will not come out when they want to without thinking about it.  To anyone setting up Time pedals, I would suggest setting the cleats in the position that increases retention and decreases inadvertent release.

Currently I have studded platform pedals on my mtb, also 1.5" slicks and a frozen suspension fork, but that set-up is not for everyone.

From that era also is the Look S2R Moab, which is what I have:

There was also a single-sided touring equivalent Look CR2.

I am still looking for the notched mud-clearing cleat spacers that look like a spiney hedgehog and fit between the main body of the cleat and the shoe.

Now on Mondays.

These are the pedals that I've had on my HT since I first started using Clipless pedals.  I really like them, over all.

More recently, I got Shimano XT's for the SS to reduce weight, since it had a cheaper/heavier pedal on it.

I liked the Xt's enough that I was happy when the bike shop exchanged the candies that were recommended for my new bike, for XT's
