Mounting Bindings on a Poweraxe Race riser. heel piece screw length question

Hey Guys!

When mounting bindings on the above mentioned riser plate do the heel piece screws extend through the riser and into the ski?  My 997 drivers have longer screws in the heel and were mounted throught the riser and into the ski on the last two pairs that they were on. The toepiece screws would only get into the riser  I don't want to compromise on ski flex, but I also don't want ot take a chance on pulling out of the riser either.

I spoke with the tech at ski.com and he said to mount them into the riser.  But I still would like a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

I don't know if I would notice an appreciable difference if they were mounted right into the boards.

I've been mounting bindings for over 30 years, fwiw.

Suggestions.

Mike

If you are talking about the thick black plate that is premounted on the Salomon race skis, the screws for the bindings should not even go through the plate. They just mount on the plate. That plate should be free floating between the mounts that are actually in the ski.

If you are talking about the PE2 risers that look like a toe and heel piece with a piece of Aluminum tying them together, The binding just mounts on that plate as well. The screws that mount to the ski on this unit are under the plate.

There was a poweraxe of an older vintage with no ties between the toe and heel, just 2 riser plates. That one required screws that went through the plate and into the ski.

Man!

This is great!  Such fast responses.

Yes they're they black "floating" risers.

Looks like I'll have to grind down the posidrive screws that attch the heel piece.  The heads of the screws are of a slightly smaller diameter than the rest of the screw in the batch.  Too bad I don't have any smaller heade screws lying around.  Don't really get the warm and fuzzys thinking about ratcheting in some rusty deck screws or drywall screws.

Any idea where to get the Salomon screws?  Everybody 'round here is selling their patio furniture at this time!!  Yuk, yuk.

I don't have any unmounted bindings lying around but I do have a pile of salomon posi screws..

How long are the ones you have or do you know how long of a screw you need.

The other option is contact one of the year round shops, (REI) or one of our guys here on the forum.

They can probably sell you a set..

Starthaus is still open. Sierra Jim works at that shop as well. Both are here on Epic.

Bud from Snowind is also here on Epic and has a shop.

I'm sure there are many more..

Thank you everyone. All will be well. I will mount the 997 driver suspension equipes into the riser plate only. So many smart folks here!

So, what I did was just measure the longer screws and hit 'em with a cutting wheel attached to my Dremel. Took  enough length of so they only make it into the plate  They had enough "bite" to get into the pre-drilled holes in the risers.

So now I've got a brand new pair of Salomon Equipe 10 SL Racing  mounted with 997 Driver Suspension Equipes.  The best part is the whole set-up set me back $99.95.  Skis.com!

Sweet.
