Re-opening in May, snowpack permitting...??

What's the story with that?

I think they close Whistler for a while and only keep Blackcomb open, then switch it for the late season.  Not sure on that, though.

I slide.

Yeah, this is normal.  They close Whistler in April, then open Whistler and close Blackcomb in May, then close Whistler and open Blackcomb (the glacier) in June.  I don't know why, but after April, they only keep one of them open at a time.  I'm not sure if they've *always* done it this way as I'm relatively new in the PNW, but this is the way I've seen it in the recent past.

Yup, it's pretty much always been like that. I asked about it one year and was told that A) A lot of staff's contracts are up at the end of April (not enough employees to run everything) and B) They really don't get enough skiiers to warrant having that many lifts running (Cost vs Expense).

Often times, they won't re-open Whistler in May (though with the base this year, they may).

Hell, I'm happy to even have one mountain open so close by, this late in the season :). Though it was pretty damn slushy last weekend.

Thanks - I did know that Blackcomb was open the latest - and the glacier. Son skiied a mogul camp  there last summer.  But I didn't realize it was "normal" practice to re-open Whistler, snowpack permitting of course.
