I thought I read that there are no changes, just that they'll actually start making some again (since as I'm sure you know, the 185's have been MIA for quite some time now this year).

Can confirm they are physically unchanged (other than graphics) and they'll actually make a few more this year

does anyone know if the jj will still be avalible in the 175 option?

i was looking on http://snowbiz.com.au/snowboarding_skiing/online-snow-shop/skis/armada/armada/armada-jj.html and they only have the 185. i am looking to get a pair at the end of next season, and im 5'8 and i am worried the 185's will be too long.

Suggest you go search over at TGR. Lot of comments, nearly all positive, seems to be a seriously fun/weird shaped ski that skis very short. I'd be interested myself for trees and glades, but can't get past the graphics. (I know, shallow of me, and disembodied brains rock, and all that...)

if you want a 175, and can buy through USA dealer, there are still some around. The 185 completely sold out of North American Stock by beginning of February. They were the hottest ski on the market followed by the S7. If you see a 185 please PM me!

Protor Jones is taking reserves for next season: $674

I would search around over at TGR for comps. I think the s7 has a more tradtional feel and a bit stiffer, Not positive just wht I picked up in conversation at a shop  in Whistler.

Yo Finn:

185 JJ is stiffer than 188 S7, fer sure.

I was on the 175 all year, but the two fellows I ride with are on the 185's and 188 S7's and we all wear the same size boot - lucky me.  All are incredible with very subtle differences.  The JJ's are more stiff.  Just a guess, but the 175's and 185's are are made in the same press and you get the same dimensions under foot, but in deep snow you get more float and stability - I could be wrong here.  I could feel very little difference on harder snow between 175 and 185, but I love my 175s in the trees.  The S7 is an incredible ski as well.  The thinner tail (S7) sinks into the snow a bit more and makes for more "slashy" turns - super easy to initiate turns, indeed easier than the JJ's.  The drawback is that landings end up in the backseat and feel a bit out of control.  Landings are far more stable on the JJs.  JJs are a bit more easy to manage switch as well, and are the lightest skis I've been on, much lighter than the S7.  Either ski is incredible - the hype isn't just hype, they really do change skiing.  If you are unsure of the size, go up and you'll never regret it - they are very manageable.  They do ski very short, but do NOT feel like snowblades.

Bump for Finndog's question... what's your height/weight AK?

I want a specific ski for tight trees after a storm. Something I can just float around on and have a ball, but be able to turn quickly at low speeds.

I'm thinking 175 JJ.

I weigh 130lbls but I'm tall.

Everyone seems to think 185cm is the way to go, but I'm not looking for something to float open bowls on, I have Sumo's for deep days. I need an east coast ski for tight trees that have pow in them (think Jay or Stowe after a storm).

Any thoughts?

I too am among the ranks who are considering one of these skis for next season.  I haven't decided which yet, and will probably wait to demo both before I decide... but at 5'7 160 I'm sure I'd go with the 185 JJ if I can get one, and that's for tight ass Jay Peak trees!  So... who's gonna have the demos, huh?  WHO???

Not to get all TGR on this thread b/c it can be a bit exhausting over there, but for those of us with nothing to do this summer but vacilate between JJs, Night Trains and S7s I throw a new monkey in the mix.

Lets hear it for a new up and comer, with potential to meet or usurp the performance of the trio listed above, for a lesser price and made in the good ole USA.  I apologize in advance for all the indecisive folks like me:

The ON3P Billy Goat

billygoatgraphic

"With its short turn radius and rockered tip and tail, the Billy Goat is one of the most playful skis in our line. While able to charge, its tapered tip and tail and pintail design allow it to excel in soft snow and tight trees. Don’t be quick to judge it as a powder-only tool, though. Even at 115mm underfoot, it is capable of laying down carves in hardpack and makes an excellent one-ski quiver for skiers at western resorts or powder ski for skiers at eastern resorts. Due to its playful nature, it is also a favorite touring ski for us here at ON3P."

I'd love to get on a pair of billy goats, they sound great.  I'm hoping with on3p being based out of Portland, we might finally be able to find some of these boutique skis to demo in the PNW (I'd love to try a pair of lhasa pows, too, but good luck around here).  Maybe one of these days he'll be at crystal or alpental or something with a few pairs of skis.
