What is it called when you ski on the tops of moguls? Like when you get air on one mogul and then bump of the next one.Its hard for me to explain but if anyone can help....

I use that same technique for my own entertainment/enjoyment. I thought it was just screwing around.

Do you mean airing off the crest of one bump, & then landing on the backside of the next?  If so, I've always called that an airplane turn.

No,ITs like this:if theres a mogul field then you get air of the first mogul and FLY to the next one then you smash the mogul by bending your knees so you get enough air to fly to the next one you don't turn and you can't stop.

Are talking about doing it heading straight downhill?  If so, it was called stairstepping back in the days when I had thigh muscles that could do that......the 1970s.  I'm not sure if its called that today.

Is it called "BAD BUMP SKIING?"

Avalment was a French term that showed up in the JC Killy days.  As I recall it translated to "swallowing".  Basically a form of terrain unwaiting in the bumps.  You see somebody skiing the bumps and they are all compressed up on the top of the bump before they extended over the backside; that is avalement.

I calll it doubling, and its quite a useful technique to know and IMO a very finesse move.

very usefull on elongated bumps that you want to ski a slow line fast on.

I call it skipping because it's like skipping a stone across the surface of a lake. I only touch the tops of the bumps as I skip over a mogul field. Just as with skipping a stone, I find fast rotation helps to keep me afloat. I rotate 540º or 720º between each touch down.

He's around 5:25 in this video.  720s on teles in the bumps

OK maybe not 720s on teles, but still sweet.

I'd rather be skiing

I didn't realize that guy was doubling up those bumps the first time I watched a link to that clip. That's really kind of more impressive than what the alpiners are doing, but when I saw it before I only thought "why doesn't he ski quick and tight like the mogulists?". Because he's skipping, that's why.

Thought you;d like that one.  My last Freestyle Team coach (in 81-92) rocked a pair of teles quite a bit and played in the bumps with them.  He tried helis on them but never really landed any clean.  They were pretty floppy old skool set ups... really skinny!

I'd rather be skiing
