Summit County w/o a car?

If one were planning a trip to Summit County w/o renting a car, which would be the best town to stay in? I know I can use the Summit Stage to get to any place I'd like to ski, but what about convenience and ease of access to grocery store, bars, etc.?

One vote for staying in the center of Breck and near a bus stop. Walk into town for dinner, nightlife, walk to the bus stop for skiing in Keystone or A-Base.

Thanks, that confirms one option that was on my list.

Another choice is to stay at Copper, but without a car, it's hard to ski A Basin from Copper, or Copper from breck.  For me, both Telluride and Aspen are better choices if I don't have a car.  They're better choices if you do have a car.

I don't see why you don't want a rental car.  When you factor in the cost of a shuttle from/to the airport, the cost is almost nil.  And with the car you can stay off the mountain in Dillon/Silverthorne/Frisco and actually save some money.  If you are paying the premium for ski in/out accomodations OK, but otherwise get a car.

Depends how long the stay is and if I am by myself. But, I understand what you are saying. As soon as you have to pay for two people r/t on CME, the rental car makes sense.
