A question for the Vail Mountain experts

I am working on my mogul technique and so want an intermediate slope with nice bumps. I did a search on Vail's website and it came up with a list:

Big Rock Park (Blue Sky)

Chopstix (China)

Cloud Nine (Blue Sky)

Showboat (Game Creek)

Silk Road (China)

Whippersnapper (Golden)

Whiskey Jack (Northeast)

I am staying at Lion's Head. Does that list look right? Should I just head over to Blue Sky and spend the day there? I realize the conditions aren't the best, are there any mogul runs that are in better condition right now?

At Mid Vail. You can ski Whistle Pig bottom of Zot. Good blue bump run. Also you can ski PowerLine Glade which is rated black but isn't as steep as Whistle PIG (BLUE). Zot at Mid Vail good too, but you have a steep headwall upper section. Cookshack off Avanti lift I believe has bumps.

You can also play around on S Look Ma accessed from eith Wildwood or Mid Vail Express (Lift 4)

Showboat is good in Game Creek because based on how high up you enter the skier's left side the steeper the bumps, the lower you enter less steep.

Lots of fun bump runs at Vail that aren't overwhelming. Go over to Lift 10 and you're by yourself usually and can ski High Line (double black) till you drop .

I've never seen Big Rock Park or Whiskey Jack bumped up.

This is the second time I've been told Whistle Pig. I wonder why the Vail website doesn't mention it?

Whistle Pig has always been bumped up when I'm there for my week in early Feb.
 

I'm not sure where your list came from, but almost every run on that list is a groomer!

Minnie's, Kangaroo Cornice (w/ old lower Nastar), Look Ma, South Look Ma, Whistle Pig/ Zot, Milt's, Cows Face, ApresVous, Ricky's Ridge, Morningside, Widges, Wild Card, Baccarat, Challenge, First Step, Jade Glade Gully, Ghengis Khan, Weather Station, Resolution Bowl (Blue Sky), etc are all better runs for bumps than those on your original list.

Highline, Roger's, ClicketyClack, LogChute, Prima, Pronto are longer, steeper runs, and are some of the tougher bumps on Vail Mtn.

One of our favorite blue bump sections is the two lowest sections of Prima (Lower Prima.)  Come down across the catwalk from the bottom of the Northwoods lift and make a right onto Prima there.  These two sections of Prima end at Brisk Walk.  For years this section of Vail has been a training ground for me in bumps. 

Also as VSP told me the best training bumps at Vail are in  Game Creek Bowl skier's left of the chair. Steeper at the top, mellower at the bottom.

Thanks for the list! I got my list from Vail's website. It has an interactive section where you put in what kind of slope you are looking for and it spits out a list of slopes that meet your criteria. I put in intermediate, mogul runs.

Oh well. I'll be out there next week, care to join me???? ;-)

Love the list but could you suggest two or three runs that are consistent and fairly mild? I am looking to dial in my technique. Maybe a bowl area to play in?

To narrow down VSP's list, I might suggest you start out with Whistle Pig, just as roundturns said. Easy to lap this run off the #4 chair, and it may be just what you're looking for. Mild, sustained pitch and moderate to intermediate sized bumps, but lift line can build up by mid-morning. From the Mid-Vail base you can look up at Challenge and the Look Ma runs then hop the #3 chair and give them a go. Also, from the top of #3, you can drop into Game Creek and try Wild Card. Then make the world your oyster.

Neither have I. same goes for most of cloud nine. I think showboat would be a good idea since you wil be staying at lionshead. Just hop off the gondola and take the catwalk to chair 7. After a couple of runs there go traverse by chir 3 down to midvail where you will see "look ma" and other fun runs that may have bumps. If you go to blue sky you will see that Cloud nine and big rock are groomers but very fun and beautiful runs. Take pete's chair up and head right to rendition which sometimes is bumpy.

So here I am at Vail. I spent the first two days skiing with my 7 y/o daughter so stayed on the easy groomers. Monday I spent the day on Whistle Pig. The top of the run is good but the middle is really chopped up. The moguls were very sharp edged. Then while on the lift with an instructor, I asked about easier mogul runs. She suggested I try Powerline. WOW! It is perfect for what I need. Not alot of pitch and decent moguls. I spent the entire day today on it. Funny, for me I have trouble with absorption. I don't seem to have much trouble with extension. I use a trick to stay forward, what I do is when I get to the top of the mogul, I pull my feet under my butt (it feels like my skis are leaving the snow) and that forces me forward down the mogul where I just extend. I just can't get the hang of the absorption. Does anyone have a trick for that??

Absorbsion - I see some people hammer each mogul (no carve) to slow their speed.  They're knees will be shot in 10 years.

Fluid bump skiers "suck up" each bump as they approach (loose legs), pivot, and carve as they extend, scrubbing speed.  When the turns are linked, it looks like they're dancing down the bumps, with virtually no impact.  Beautiful rhythm.

Showboat under Game Creek Express has nice intermediate bumps.  I run them when I want bump practice, but lack the energy for Highline and Rogers.  Pronto is also nice.

Thanks for the tip about Showboat, it was great!! Up till my ski broke!!!! I crossed over the slope to the left of the lift (if you are on the lift) and didn't know there was a sharp drop off at the lift! Well, I went over and crashed!! I was fine but one of my Hart F17 tail's broke!!! 

Also, it's icy here!!

Mitch- sorry we haven't hooked up for some turns... I have been without internet for about a week, and just got back on tonight! 

It seems all I have been skiing the past 10 days are bumps, so it's likely you may have seen us hitting them! We have been all over- especially those bumps which still have cold dry snow!

I'm tied up from Sat- Tues, but if anyone is here in Vail after that, drop by Lionshead and say hi! If I have time, maybe we can make some turns!

Today some friends and I went over to Blue Sky and had some fun. We started with Little Ollie (icy) and then hit The Divide and then Encore. When I hit Encore, it all clicked! I was able to connect moguls together into a nice run! Before that I was just skiing each mogul by itself. Once I started connecting the moguls and looking about three moguls ahead thing got much smoother and easier! I am so psyched and also bummed that I won't be able to ski again for a while. I think I will be attending the Mogul Logic camp this summer but until then, this will most likely be the last trip of the season.
