Well it's all French . Anyway, they must be participating in some other FIA sanctioned category. Just saying the threat of their withdrawal should not prevent them from being sanctioned as a team like McLaren or Williams would be.

In case anyone is not up to speed on the Renault saga, here's a recap - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78682

The radio transcript and throttle traces are pretty interesting. In the radio transcript, I found it interesting to see that they were trying to control Alonso's pace during the safety car to make sure the car would stay out longer and more cars would run out of gas while the pit lane was closed. Nope, not gonna miss Flav.

You don't think he'll be back anytime soon?

Yeah, they might.  Otherwise I'll bet he'll be back.

Power corrupts, eh?

Yeah, and I don't know if they can end his management deals with drivers.

So do you think Fernando will drag Ferrari down?

Not that he was alone in the blame but his last two stints have ended....er...uneasily.  Ferrari seem a bit fragile right now.  He does have all the tools for winning lots of races but his tool chest is obviously much deeper than that.  Do you think he will return the team to prominence or dash it on the rocks?

I'm voting rocks.

Nice, Hamilton is on pole with KERS and more gas than everyone through 7th. Should be fun.

Everything but official.  It might be interesting to ask Kimi that question.

Wow, wet qualifying. Rubins  on the pole. I'm rooting for him to win it. I've never been much of a Button fan.
Too bad for Jean Carlo he looked pretty good for a brief moment there.

OK so Button's World champ & Brawn have the constructor's championship.
Time to go skiing :-)

Not quite yet Cardweg, though it just snowed in VT again last night.

That was a heckuva race though, huh? The first lap alone was pretty crazy. Do you think it's coincidence that Trulli has been talking about NASCAR? I was expecting him to start smashing Sutil with his helmet.

Pretty good race and really good season I thought.  Next year should be big fun.  Although I'm very much looking forward to it, hopefully the biggest fun will be had in the interim =)

Fave lines of the weekend:  "Putting the boo in Abu Dhabi."  Sebastian Vettel, what will you do in the off season that you can't do during the season?  "Skiing!  There's no snow in the mountains during the season"  Kimi Raikonnen, what will you do in the off season that you can't do during the season?  Nothing really, I do whatever I want whenever I want.  (paraphrased)

Luckily I haven't gotten too attached. Toyota pulled out of F1 today. By the end of the day Renault may be gone too. At least that opens the way for Sauber to get on the grid.

Expected Toyota.  Figured Renault would stay after they signed Kubica.  Hopefully there will be thirteen teams on the grid next year.  Should be a place for Kobayashi somewhere.

Did you catch Peter Windsor saying that eventually USF1 would have American drivers?  Sure hope they're points competitive next year.

I doubt very much that USF1 will have even one point next year. I'm hoping to see Alex Wurz driving for them next year. I wonder who their sponsors would be. I'd like to see Apple computer sponsor them. Would also like to see Marco Andretti or Graham Rahal driving for them in 2011.

Toyota is officially out.  Some say this is the kiss of death to F1.  I'm not sure I get why..

You could easily be right.  Fun to be optimistic though and with the rule changes, next year will be a pretty good year to be a rookie team.  Wurz would be good.  I think Red Bull owes a lot of their success to having veteran drivers to start out with...good set up guys.

Ha!  If Apple gets behind them wouldn't it be fun if Microsoft sponsored another fledgling team.  It would be like the Mac vs. PC ads played out on race courses around the world =).

Any young hot shoe Donohues or Gurneys out there?

Silly Season seems to be progressing slowly, but did you guys see yesterday's news?

Mercedes-Benz buys Brawn GP outright. They're still sending Button packing though, it looks like they'll have Rosberg and Heidfeld. McLaren is buying back their shares from M-B and will probably be picking up Button. I hope taht all of this can make for a stronger McLaren. In other driver news, it looks like Raikonnen will go rallying.

Wow, I missed that news and your post.  I think this will work out better than Senna/Prost or Hamilton/Alonso.  Hmmm, so Mercedes Grand Prix will field Rosberg/Heidfeld while their customer team will have the last two world champs.  Think those customer mills will have the same specs?

So where will Rubens and Heikki land?

Looks like Eddie Jordan is convinced that Michael will drive for his old buddy Ross next year.

Should be fun!

You're probably right.  Did some quick hunting but didn't find the info.  Of course my wishful thinking had him in a USF1 ride.
