Rooster tails and technique

So here is my question/scenario: This weekend I was at Stratton (hey tickets were comped - no comments) in Spring conditions. Thick mush by the late morning/early afternoon. I ski Legend 8K - for those who don't know the tail has a slight up turn.

My buddy said he could not ski behind me because I was kicking up huge rooster tails once we got moving. My question is was this related to the conditions, a flaw in my technique, a combination of the two or something else. After he commented on this to me I payed attention to other skis of similar design and did not observe the same phenomenon. I asked him if it looked like I was skidding through turns and he said no, I was carving through although slightly washing out at the end. (I thought I knew how to ski until I read Big skis = can't ski). Thoughts, comments?

Are we there yet?

ummm wow..

rooster tails can happen on anyski with a turned up tail they have nothing to do with how well you ski.

Yep, twin tips create rooster tails. I use them for coaching when my kids are following too close.  They learn really fast to stay back.

It's because your buddy is a real pussy.

I've already got the twin tip wide boards, so my question is - how do you maximize rooster tails?

Slinging slush = fun.

I learned that first hand from skiing with you...man it was like driving behind a salt spreader...that hard granular shot me up...full face helped but still got shot up on the face...that's incentive next time to try and remain ahead of you

Exactly!  That's part of the fun; especially when one happens upon a group of mouth breathing knuckle-dragers sitting down in the middle of a preferred line.

One pair of skis I had would shoot them up almost 10 feet and hit me in the back of the head while turning in the right conditions.

I don't think this is limited twin tips.

I ski frequently with really good skiers and I've learned to stay to their side or oblique so I don't get sprayed.  The person I ski the most with when this happens is usually on Fischer Race skis (not sure which ones but I know they are FIS reg).  The first time it happened was over a month ago and there wasn't any slush in sight.

I would take the rooster tail as a compliment to your carving.

I also think that if you were washing out your tail, you would have less of a rooster tail

I will let my buddy know that the concensus is that he is a pussy. Thanks for the idea about the knuckle draggers. I am head to PC today so I will give it a shot and report back.

I kick up wicked tails on my PEs but I haven't gotten any complaints about my 8Ks.  I don't ski behind my buddy on his Mantras...whiteout, man.
