Atomic Nomad Blackeye and Volkl AC30 - do women ski this ski and what size

Hi, I am new to this post but saw some useful advice being exchanged so thought I would give it a try.

I am trying to decide whether to buy the Blackeye.. I only demoed it in a 157 (they didn't have the 164) out East.. I am a woman, 5'8 and 140 lbs. and am an advanced skiier.  I have skiied all my life,  my current ski is the Atomic Beta Carve 9.18.  I tried the Seventh Heaven and thought they were too soft..

Do you think 157 is too short.. they were fun in the moguls, but I am wondering if I should be on a longer ski.

I tried the Volkl AC30 at 164 and they were not as good in the moguls, but felt much smoother..

Heading off to Sun Valley this week and was thinking of buying Blackeyes before I left... Thoughts?

Also, any comments on wood core vs. fiberglass?

Keke,

I own a pair of 07/08 Blackeyes (same as current year, different 4-12 binding).  I'm 34, 5'11", 185lbs and have been skiing for 25 years.  I own a pair of 171s.  Sounds to me that you may do well with a pair of 164s - but I would make that YOUR call, not the call of the sales guy.  The longer ones will have a little more stability at faster speeds, and while not the biggest carver, it still quite nimble.  So, I think these skis are phenomenal.  They fell light underfoot, they are responsive, they are stable at higher speeds, they carve and hold very well, they can take being pushed, but are agreeable if you feel like taking it easy.  IMO, they are a pure joy to ski.  I live in NH, where we get plenty of crud and highly variable conditions... ranging from ice to packed to heavier snow and sometimes even powder.  I wanted a ski that worked well in most all situation (not necessarily a 1 quiver type) and I the blackeye fits the bill... I think you will be happy either way, but I think you'd be quite pleased on the 164s.  Would love to hear if you decide to purchase (or if you already did - your opinion).

I had the Atomic Beta Carve 9.18 until this year when I bought the AC 30's. I'm a 155 lbs/5'-9" advanced skier.

The AC 30's are great in packed powder/ice, good on bumps, but there are much better skis for powder and crud, like the Armada ARV's I rented. I would recommend demoing skis before buying, or just renting demo skis without buying. Since flying requires a charge for an extra bag, it makes sense to just demo if you fly to ski most of the time.  No ski is great for all conditions. 160 cm sounds about right for you in the AC 30's.

Advanced-Expert all mountain skier.  Am on the AC 30's and absolutely love them.  They are rock like in stability.  I can go off almost anything and land with full confidence.  They are faster than. ... on hard pack, turn as you want, work ok in moguls, I have found them to do perfectly in deep (> 12") powder, and go right through most crud.  I am 5'-6", 130 lbs., and ski the 163 length.  I tried the shorter and the ski was lacking.  I tried the longer and I can swing the 163's around more easily.  Just fyi.
