cross post- please see my post on the gear forum here: www.epicski.com/forum/thread/81254/binding-suggestions-for-new-coombas I would especially like input from BC folks!
bindings for Coombas??
What do you want to do with the ski? If you get the Barons you have some flexibility, you can ski inbounds, you can ski some sidecountry, and they tour decently but there are better bindings for touring. In your other post you indicated that you don't have AT boots so I'm guessing you aren't thinking about long tours...go with the barons.
If you want to become a backcountry fiend there MAY be better options but you won't want to do massive tours in alpine boots
If you want a backcountry opinion, get Dynafits. Light, reliable, and they ski well...but your post in the Gear forum indicates more of an inbounds bias and you're disinclined to get new boots. Compromises involve...compromises.
I know, Bob. I do have a dedicated AT setup (although my boots- Lowa Strukturas- are not Dynafit compatible, so I had to go with Fritchis), and thought that the Coombas would be my 2nd line ski for AT and inbounds big powder days. I am thinking that the TM:x's will still be my 1st line AT ski for now. I have toyed with the idea of getting a pair of Dynafit compatible boots, putting Dynafit bindings on the TM:x's and moving the Fritchis to the Coombas, but I'm not sure that I can swing the cost of yet another pair of boots right now.

Then I guess your choices are between heavy/very stable and light/somewhat flexy. At somewhere around 50% inbounds/50% OB I'd tend towards the Fritschis. The more inbounds, the more likely I'd be to choose the Marker. IOW, it would depend on how much skinning you expect to do with them.
FWIW, I've never heard of any significant issues with the release or general safety on the Fritschis.
