...And Not for the Reasons Any of You Guys Think

Sure, Lindsey Vonn is hot. And yes, she can ski. But when I saw this, I knew she was the one:

Is that to stop her injuring herself the next time she opens some Spumanti?

Plus there's that little problem of her husband who, among other things, is a considerably better skier than you are (or at least there is an extremely high probability that is the case).

At first figured it was her toughness you admired. Then  realized the photo makes it look like her glove is duct-taped.  Despite appearances, she is not using duct-tape on that glove.   

Yup Prickly you are right.... since Val d'Isere, Lindsey is skiing with right pole taped to her hand/glove. She still has problem with finger, so she tapes pole to her hand to ski easier... or to even ski at all :)

Prickly, no not ducky-T.  Note the woven texture of the tape, defined edges, nice even draping with the curvatures of the hand. Fabric. It's a nice woven grosgrained type fabric tape. Characteristics are not influenced by extreme cold.   Normally stark white. Since white is really a combo of all colors, I would guess the sky was gray that day & the tape is absorbing & reflecting the grayness. 

I can only recognize it as so because it has often been my friend.  Besides, can you imagine trying to tear off/unpeal freshly adhered duct tape from an area of an injured joint/tendon ?  Regardless of the glove, the force needed.  The pain indured could cause hard plastic ski boots to strike out & injure anyone in the vicinity.    

I know duct tape is the go to, revered, fix anything for you guys. But.... there is a whole world of possiblities out there beyond duct tape.  A few are actually better than duct-tape. Hard to get past it though now that it comes in multiple color choices.

Ok I have no idea if it's really duct tape or some other tape :) If it would be me, I definitely wouldn't use duct tape, since I just hate getting it off. But for SL she actually has silver tape, so it's not just reflection :) For super-g and downhill (in last races in Tarvisio) it looked like she had whole glove taped with some white tape (I don't have any photo of her in SL race, where you could see her right hand, but you can see her, and her glove during super-g on above link).

Now this is a discussion I can sink my teeth into. We need to know more about that tape!

In OZ you need to ask for "Power Tape" because Duck Tape in OZ don't gots no cloth to strengthen it, but in GB you may need to ask for "Bodge Tape" which I guess is a where we in the US got "botched" from.

Now, on Duck versus Duct ....

A little Googling reveals that, whatever we, the Aussies and the English may have to say about the subject, Ms. Vonn herself thinks it's duct tape:

"My hand probably weighs two pounds more because of all the duct tape I have on it," Vonn said. (Seattle PI, Minn. Star-Tribune, Boston Herald, LA Times, numerous other papers. some of whom acknowledge that the source is actually the AP and some of whom don't)
 

"I have a different protector on it and a lot of duct tape. It's a big wad of duct tape." (The Telegraph, in the UK, whose readers have apparently been forced to abide the Americanism).
